SEVA Meeting Minutes – July 2013

Thanks again to our recording Secretary Kevin Boze, for a bang up job.

WELCOME NEW FACES!! We have eleven new people here this meeting! Members and newcomers alike are encouraged to sign up for e-mail to stay abreast of the latest. Our various outreach events like “Gasless” are bringing them in..

WE’RE #2!! Our membership is second only to Silicon Valley in the nation, and only by FOURTEEN Souls. Please join the Electric Auto Association of America. Size isn’t everything, but it’s good for bragging rights.

MEETINGS AND SHOWS IN REVIEW. There were over 10,000 persons in attendance for the “Gasless on Greenwood” event. We had many fine cars on display, including the famous White Zombie, a 1950 Studebaker Pick Up conversion, production cars like theTesla – S, and many others. We won the award for largest car club, as we did in 2011, and our very own Al Swackhammer won the Best Electric catagory. Accounting for outgoing $$money, and incoming donations the whole show including the picnic cost SEVA $630. Unfortunately the Edison Electric boat was not on hand for “Gasless” but did make it to Seattle for the Wooden Boat Festival the following week end.. This eye-turning vessel was built in the style of the Chris Craft of the 40s. It is as fast as it is beautiful, and one of four boats on display that boasted electric power. Lithium batteries and electronics with help from John Wayland of Portland. The 2012 Coda was the ONLY EV on hand for the Burien Father’s Day show, although dealers were displaying the Chevy Volt. Jeff Finn went to the Wenatchee Festival the same weekend. There was an EV Parade to the various geological marvels of the area. Fourth of July parade (Kirkland) had sixteen cars on display. EVs were making themselves seen to the public. You can be a part of the Saturday parade in Redmond (Derby Days). Contact Jeff Finn. OVERLOOKED but not forgotten… Shoreline Solar Fest Saturday July 27th. Details at infoShorelineSolar.org Contact Mary Wynn ( 206 306 9233 ) or (MarynWynne@shorelinesolar.org)

MAPLE LEAF SOCIAL – This event will be on July 31. There were at least 500 people in attendance last year. This is an excellent opportunity to do outreach to the community and tell them how much you love driving and saving money with your EV.

LICENSE PLATE FRAMES – We are surveying the membership to see what the interest would be on a special SEVA license plate. There’s quite a bit of enthusiasm!

V.P. STEPHEN AT LAGUNA SECA – Stephen gave the membership a slide show of his trip to the EV races at Laguna Seca. His ’88 Fiero conversion had a rough time, but it has provided a lot of opportunities to learn and improve. His slideshow gave a useful and informative run-down on the steps taken to produce a first-class racing machine.

REDESIGN OF SEVA’S WEBSITE – Mark Schiller presented an overview of the website’s draft “new Look”. SEVA has excellent information. We would like to re-package what we have and put it into a more accessible, user-friendly format. Needless to say, we will be looking for subject matter experts to help edit and review the content, as well as people to provide guidance to the students.

LEE COLETTON AND BC –TO-BC – Lee gave a slideshow presentation about the BC-to-BC run in his Mitsubishi MiEV. Although officially disqualified for straying off the official course due to his unique Charging Needs, he did make it all the way to San Diego. He had some interesting tales to share about the experience.

Chuck Bensen, and Dave Cloud collaborated in a huge mass purchase of raffle tickets, and it paid off with the winning ticket.
The formal meeting adjourned at 8:59pm. Discussions continued till after 10 pm.

As always, if we have left something important out, don’t hesitate to add your own two cents. See you all August 13th, if not before.
