SEVA Meeting Minutes – January 2025
Seattle Electric Vehicle Association
January 14, 2025 meeting minutes
___
Yes Folks, to begin SEVA’s 45th fiscal year, we’ve got a packed program lined up tomorrow night at the University Village Tesla Store. The kids can go to bed hungry and date night can wait, ’cause there’s important business to discuss from 7-8:30 pm!
First comes Steven Boze to tell us all about Zin. https://www.zinboats.com/ Zin builds high performance electric boats locally and sends marine drive systems all over the world.
Then we have Chris Johnston, co-author of the Society of Automotive Engineering book “Arrival of the Electric Car”, with his dEVeloping plan for EV charging stations in the right-of-way green strip between curb and sidewalk.
Next comes the final release of “The Rob Report” from our SEVA Member Survey of last year, with a summary from VP Rob on the fine work that he, Magdalena, and Kathryn Kerby, a virtual club member who took on much of the copywriting work, have put together.
Grace Reamer will provide a legislative update from the Washington Clean Car Choice Coalition, with a fresh bill to allow manufacturer-direct sales of electric vehicles.
Then we have the little matter of SEVA’s Annual Business Meeting, and nominations for that most auspicious of awards, the Super Electric Vehicle Advocate!
Lastly and as required by our bylaws, the Annual Election must be held in February, with openings for both President and Treasurer. Current Treasurer Charlie Tsai will be absent due to yet another electric drag racing adventure in Florida, though he is willing to serve another term.
President Jay could use a rest. SEVA is not getting the attention that I would love to lavish upon you, and as my son has missed most of this and last school year due to illness, I’m not likely to become the empty nester I hoped to be within the next two years. Similarly, my current employment with a publicly-owned utility has definitely crimped my style as far as advocacy goes. The state and local governments are slow-rolling Electrification and the maintenance of charging infrastructure, and I’m rather muzzled in my ability to respond. So please search your heart and see if a turn at the helm of SEVA might fit into your next two years. Either that, or nominate someone who’d do better, but hasn’t realized it yet!
EVer So Sincerely,
Jay Donnaway
