November 13th 2012 Meeting

A GREAT turn out for a cold and wet November night. Many NEW folks in the crowd, which is always GOOD.

Our SEVA Recording secretary Cory gave his resignation. We thank him for his service, and sorry that his work must take precedence for now. Lee Colleton here... and with some help from Pres. Steve will hold down the job till new elections can be held.

Some announcements: Clean Cities annual meeting and awards are going to be held on December 11th. That is too bad, for that conflicts with our December meeting. I know at a $10. donation for food, drink, and meeting with like minded folk, many of our people would have liked to attend. Jeff Finn reports that the Washington State steering committee for the road use charge is considering vehicles which have 55MPG equivalent or better for their fee.

Looks like Nissan has come out with a reasonably priced DCFC unit at around $15k plus $20k for install, compared to the more common Aerovironment unit at $50k and $80k to $150k for install. Good news !

The Nissan e-NV200 electric van, based on LEAF drive train is being tested by FedEx and others. I think it has also been chosen as New York Cities TAXI of the Future.

East side Nissan offering $200/mo to lease a LEAF. They've become the #1 dealership in the nation for electric vehicle sales/leases.

The SeattleEVA and Silicon Valley EVA are still "too close to CALL" for the glory of being the LARGEST EVA Chapter.

Submit papers for the Alt Clean Transportation summit in DC July 24th through 27th. Drop Steve Lough a personal e-mail if you are interested in submission and need further details.

There's an electric Bigfoot monster truck. WOW ! Who would have thought. Thanks Stephen J. for finding the link: ( http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=U41fJ-pd2vE )

At the Seattle Auto Show Solterra Systems has an EV carport idea in the MC-EV Display

.Can always use another Solar Power Company.. ( Right Jerremy ? ? ) ( http://www.useyourroof.com/ )

EAA Headquarters gave a lifetime achievement award to Tesla Motors. And guess who was there to receive the award. None other than our very own Rusty West's SON ...Dorian West, who some may remember is a Battery Engineer for Tesla.

Jacob Miller & Tyler Habowski & Daniel Wageman from UW doing EV racing. Their project is an extension of the formula SAE yearly contest to design and build a race car. This year there will be an official electric race in the US. The UW is building one combustion powered racer and a second car that is electric. They're looking for donations to meet $30k budget (just for components). Cash donations are sought from private sponsors. Any contributions are tax deductible! Other entrants to the EV contest are OSU UMI UTX

The Tesla model S was named car of the year by Motor Trend magazine. This is the first time an electric vehicle has been so nominated. Several other magazines have also done so. Presently the MEDIA is all over this. Very Positive.

Manzanita Micro's own Rich Rudman, showed off a legacy charging adapters. CHAdeMO software interface is hard. SAE1772 fast charging under consideration. Rich DID manage to leave his not book marked EVTV, in the hall. Shall get it back to him if he could give Steve a call. ( 206 524 1351)

Our President Steve showed a short video compilation he put together from the 2007 Seattle auto show Madness, which was bringing attention to the wasteful giant oversize vehicles and our seemingly addiction to OIL and Horsepower. It was a kind of WARM UP for the Presentation which our member Michael Foster gave of The Climate Reality Project http://climaterealityproject.org. It is a very timely UP-DATE of the Al Gore presentation. Michael is trained in its presentation and slide show, and will gladly schedule it to be shown to any group you might feel would find value in it.

Mark Schiller received a $1000 grant for EV education. The scope and type of media or training and educational materials which could be created with this grant, is yet to be determined. But HAY ! It's all good.

Bruce Sherry has a near full time job at the Paul Alan Computer Museum in SODO in Seattle, trying to get some HUGE Room Size computers back up and running. A daunting task. President Steve visited the museum recently and recommends it highly. Fascinating how what once would fill a room, can now be held in the palm of our hands.

A Clipper Creek 110 AC EVSE unit was given to SEVA by their new NW Sales rep. Barry Woods. And can you believe it.. it was I, Ian, who won the raffle !

Thanks for letting me stand in as Secretary. Thanks to President Steve for helping also. See you all at the December 11th meeting. Have a Happy and thankful Thanksgiving..
