August 10th 2010 Meeting

Good Morning SEVA.. I am going to be a bit more brief in my writing than usual, for this is a very busy week for our family. Going on our annual 6 family Car Camping trip, complete with Gourmet meals, much good fruit of the Vine, and much Hiking..

First, I wish on behalf of all of us in the SEVA family to give respect to Stephen Johnsen and family for they are going through a very trying time. Stephen’s mom is in the hospital and in serious failing health. Our thoughts and prayers are with them. We all honored them with moments of silence.

Chad Schwitters is doing a GREAT job on keeping on top of various EV-ents and invitations to participate. I give you the Web Address to see his Calendar of Events at: ( http://www.seattleeva.org/wiki/Current_events )

Jeff Finn introduced a guest from the So. Seattle Boys Club, who is starting up a Green-Transportation work shop for young folks 10 to 19 years old. He also gave us an UP-Date on the document for Implementation of EV Charging. Read the Finished Document at: ( http://www.psrc.org/transportation/ev/model-guidance/ ) SEVA has indorsed the document as a great document and a great guideline for counties and municipalities as we go forward.

Daniel Davids, and Ivan, and myself attended the “Plug-In-2010” in San Jose a few weeks ago, and we all shared with the group pictures from the Event. The most notable were a Working Model of the NISSAN Leaf, the Chev Volt, the Mitsubichi iMiev, Ford Electric, Smart Electric, and more than a DOZEN companies selling various J1772 Wall Units for charging EV’s Competition has already brought the cost down to around $700. for the basic 110V unit.

In speaking with Ron Fruind, President of the National EAA, while in San Jose… He mentioned that one of the California EAA Chapters is very close to taking our TOP DOG status away from us as the EAA Chapter with the largest membership. So John Mark made a special PUSH to get new members to sign up for EAA membership.

One ITEM I did not remember to bring up was an e-mail I received about the Electric Smart For 2 dealership here in the Seattle area. If any one is interested in reserving an Electric SMART Car, contact: Ethan Smith, General Manager, Smart Center Seattle at: ( esmith@smartcenterseattle.com )

Cory Cross gave a report on engineering of a Sunbeam Alpine conversion they are doing, and also a new piece of throttle control electronics he has created. You can get in touch with him at Pacific EV for further details.

Lastly… I made a impassioned plea for HELP in organizing our help for the “Zero Race” where 6 electric cars are attempting to go around the World in 80 Days, and will be passing through Seattle the first week in November. Thanks be to.. Steve Mayeda who has offered to help with our assignment.. which is to (1.) Orchestrate PR, and Media Coverage,(2.) Arrange CHARGING for the cars, and (3.) help with hospitality for the drivers and crews as they pass through Seattle. You can read all about the race which started last week in Switzerland, at: ( http://www.Zero-Race.com )

And again as always, if I have left something, or someone OUT of these Meeting Minutes, you are encouraged to add your own comments, and also to go to our web sight, and make your own corrections. See you all September 14th if not before.

Steve Lough, Presidnet
