December 9th 2008 Meeting Minutes

From the Pen of Steve Lough, and Tony Rusi

Morning Tony !! Great re-cap of last nights SEVA meeting. I think I will just USE it as my meeting minutes this month..

Here below for the rest of you folks is Tony's recap... I will add a few things after that which should be mentioned.

( Tony Rusi wrote...)

I was driving by the Dick's Drive-In on 45th in Wallingford, and there was this big crowd around a SOLAR CAR! And K. Mark, you will interested in his 10kW hub motor wheel from New Generation in Washington DC. http://xof1.com/projectourcar.html

(SEVA donated $100. to his cause and he sent us a very nice "Thank You" this morning... Guess he was preoccupied with meeting all of us, for he left his computer and all his paperwork in the Church meeting room. We will be meeting up with him this morning at 10:30 to return his stuff. His car is parked at Chuck Bensens house just a block from the church.

Tony continues... )

I had no idea that Marcelo was going to be there tonight. I felt like a native watching Columbus sail into shore into the Americas for the first time. For a second there, I had no idea what I was really looking at, no frame of reference, a shot of adrenaline shot through my body when I realized what it was.

I was late to the SEVA meeting and lost, I had to ask Sam to look up where the Seattle Electric Vehicle Association meeting was through my cell phone because I couldn't find the Mosaic Coffee shop. It turned out it was in the church behind the Dick's on 45th. They meet there every second tuesday night of the month. There were at least six electric cars there, including an electric Rav4-EV, and a guy with a Tesla jacket on. ( James Morrison)

The meeting reconvened inside and a young fellow (Stephen Johnson) talked about electric car recharge options, the 480 volt 10 minute recharge system is still in the thousands per unit.

A good project for SEVA would be a local map of ALL recharge options.) An older fellow ( Jeff Finn) discussed the Better Place electric grid recharge business plan and whether Washington State should be a part of it. Another middle aged man (Tom Saxton) announced that Tesla was holding a press conference celebrating the delivery of their 100th $100k Roadster. They plan on a new (sedan) model that will cost $49,995.
( after Federal Tax Breaks )

(X of 1 Solar Car ) Marcello is a former flight attendant from Canada who spent four years building his solar electric car. There were a couple of guys filming him for a documentary. He wants to set a world record for a solar car. He is very anal about not getting pushed or getting ANY power off of the grid at all. He should be going to Portland in a few days. Then on to California and eventually, hopefully, Argentina. He is looking for volunteers to help him along the way.

Glen, he will be in Olympia as soon as he can recharge.

Tad and Cory, He will be leaving for Portland in a few days.

Dave and Scott, He will be in San Francisco soon!

I hope you all have a chance to see the future.

A few other items from the December Meeting:

Just a few other comments on Jeff Finn's SEVA-Political-Report, later in the evening we were talking with James Morrison, and he said that talking with his State Representative, who is ALL FOR EV's that he is also in favor of extending the Sales Tax Break to Kits, Conversions, and the like. This is very good news. And he is also in favor of extending HOV privileges to EV's and PHEV's.

Dave Cloud gave a good report on his survey that was taken last month. Seems folks are confused by some claims that folks make referring to PHEV's getting 100 - 150 mpg. We feel it can be misleading as well.

Mohan Magdum gave a brief report, that he expects the little REVA electric to be available in the US, as an NEV some time in 2009 at or around $14,000. IN the E.U. the car is certified for 50 mph!! You can reach Mohan at 425 343 9389 for further details.

Our Treasurer, John Frost has our 2009 SEVA calendars for sale. You can reach him at: 206 226 1864, or frostjf@msn.com, or at the next meeting on Jan 13th 2009.

Ryan Fulcher, our Web Guy, reminded me that some one has gone ahead and nominated our President Steve, for an "EAA Lifetime Achievement Award." People who believe he is deserving of this, can write or e-mail the EAA H.Q. in California and add your 2 cents... at: Terry Wilson (EAA Board Member) 20157 Las Ondas Way Cupertio, CA 95014-3132 or: ecycle@linuxmail.org or: (408) 446-9357

As always, we will POST this to our Web Site, and being a wiki site, if I have left something out, any one can add to, or edit the meeting minutes.

Thanks to Steve Lough, for the Holiday decorations, and oranges and cookies... We wish you all the Best of the Holidays, and may your 2009 be full of Electricity !!
