May 13th 2008 Meeting

Yes, it was cold, wet, and folks were saying that 30 or 40 chairs would probably be enough.

80 – CHARIS were Not Enough. What a surprise. Great turn out. Lots of good stuff covered. And there were a half dozen EV’s in the parking lot.

Lots of stuff to review, so lets get right to it. First up-coming EV-ents of note:

Kenmore Jr. High School, May 22nd 7 pm to 8:30 in their cafeteria. Asking for a few more EVs to come. Paul Peavyhouse lives in the neighborhood. Jeff Finn may join also. Call or write me…stevenslough@comcast.net

Dr. Andy Frank, the father of Plug-In –Hybrids will be speaking at So. Seattle Com. College. Check their web site for exact time and place. It is part of their “Rainbow Festival”. No one who has ever heard Dr. Andy Frank, would care to miss his Seattle Visit and speech. ( 1 pm to 2 pm on 5/28) Scroll down to 5/28 At: http://www.southseattle.edu/calendar/calmain.htm

Dave White, and Bob Junell, in charge of the Greenwood Car Show came by. Saturday, '''June''' 28th is the day of the 2008 Greenwood Car show. And this year they are making Special Arrangements for us - Space enough for 20 or more Electric Cars and vehicles. SEVA will be paying the first $15. and participating folks will send check or cash to SEVA for the remaining $10. ( $25. per vehicle total) As before we will Que up in the parking lot at the very South End of Woodland Park at the foot of Whitman Ave. at 7 am. and drive to our NEW Secure EV Parking Lot. The exact address yet to be determined. They are also working on EV Charging for us. Entry forms can be down-loaded as a (.doc) or (pdf) at their web site at: http://www.greenwoodcarshow.com/registration.php THEN.... and this is IMPORTANT... Forward them to Steve Lough, along with your $10. We will be amassing the applications and then making a MASTER Application with our Full Check for ALL our SEVA Entries.

We have also been invited to bring Cars and INFO to a Father’s Day celebration in Country Village in Bothell, from 12 noon to 3 pm. And also to participate in a Parade in Edmonds on the 4th of July.

Next Dave Cloud, and Jeff Finn reported on the 2008 Long Distance EV Rally. Ten cars participated even though Rain and Mothers Day cut into the Count. There will be a detailed report on this at our web site soon. But Dave Cloud with 2 battery packs in Jeff’s Geo did 101 miles. Brian in his MR2 with fresh paint did over 60 as did Kent in his Li-Ion VW Beatle. It should be remembered that Lead = Range. And John Wayland proved this Years ago, in his Big Toyota Pick-up with 40 batteries turning in over 140 miles out on the open road.

Got a final count on the GREEN FESTIVAL at the Convention Center last month. 31,000 folks paid good money to see and hear about enviro products, and get a chance to listen to Steve Lough and Chelsea Sexton talk EV talk in a Packed Lecture room.

“Green My Ride” in Greenwood was also well attended. We had 15 electric cars there, and the weather really came out for us.

The EV Conference in Wenatchee, ( Power UP 2008) was well worth the trip. I brought my Insight, Dan Davids and Steve Johnson brought his Rav4EV, and the folks from MC EV brought over several NEV’s . But more than the Car Show, were the speakers who came to Wenatchee from all over the country, to talk of Plug-In-Hybrids, Hybrid School Busses, Hybrid Commercial Trucks, V2G, End-Of-Oil, Commercialization of EVs, and on and on. At their web site there are audio, video, and slide shows of all the presentations over the 2 day conference. Too much to try and outline here. But I encourage you to go to their web site at: http://plugincenter.com/index.php?page_id=274 and view the presentations and speakers.

Good News: Barbara’s conversion classes at SSCC is FULL. And folks at the meeting were on the waiting list to get IN.

We are going to RE-Order 50 or so of our SEVA T-Shirts. But this time in stead of White on Black, we are going to order Bright Yellow Print on Dark Green T-Shirts. We should have them for sale for our next meeting.

I met one Mr. Kyle K. Wang from Delaware Power Systems out of BC Canada, at PowerUP. He gave a very interesting talk on their Modular Li-Ion Batteries where each module has its own BMS, and can be built UP like putting legos together.

In our Break out, some of the most interesting sub-groups was that of folks talking about some kind of EV Conversion structure. I am going to CALL for a meeting of folks interested in this as a separate meeting soon.

The meeting went on till 10:30 and we all went home better for it all.

As I have said before, If I have left out anything, please Please go to our SEVA Web site and just hit the “edit” button, and add your comments.

Our NEXT meeting, June 10th will be a very important one. See you there if not before.

Thanks again

Steve Lough, pres.
