Fuels
There are basically two types of energy or fuel resources available for powering society, including out cars. One is the type which has been dominate for a few centuries which take the form of Coal, Oil, and Natural Gas which are all long time frame solar resources. Nuclear Wikipedia:Nuclear Fission is also an even longer time frame solar byproduct, though because the materials aren't strictly terrestrial, having been produced in the hearts of long dead stars, it's generally tends to fall into the clean category as it is not carbon based. The other forms of energy which we will eventually be forced to transition to are short time frame solar resources or near-term solar resources such as PV electric and direct heat Solar, Wind, Hydro, and even forms of bio-fuels. All of these near and long term solar forms are the result of Wikipedia:Nuclear Fusion occurring in stars.
