June 8th 2010 Meeting

WOW !! Ask and you shall Receive, some one once said. First Business was the Greenwood Car Show. None other than their BOS, Brian Canfield, came by to give us an UP-Date and a Pep Talk. We all know that some of the Hot Rod/Custom/Antique crowd probably wish we would go away, but Brian is All for us being there. Mater of fact, he is an x- Applicant for the Head Job down at the TESLA dealership. No he didn’t make the cut. He’s driving a Miata, not a Tesla, but his heart is in the right place. The Car Show is now an official SeaFair EV-ent. The City has given them even more space on Greenwood Ave, and they may have enough room for a 1000 cars, in stead of the 700 they had last year.

So I put out the IDEA about a Pic Nic after the Show Right IN Woodland Park, near our Rendezvous parking lot at 50th Street NE, and Whitman Ave. Trouble is they wanted $90. to RESERVE it. So some one said “ LETS PASS THE HAT” And we came up with $87. just $3. short of our Deposit. So it is a GO.

The Pic Nic will be for ALL SEVA members !!! Not just the folks who bring cars. It’s a POT LUCK. Folks are urged to bring their own Pic Nic Supper Fix-ins, and drinks. Good thing is, folks wont have to Fight Parking in my neighborhood with their cars and trailers and such. They will all ready BE THERE. Down side, we will have to be VERY Discrete about our choice of Beverages, and How we consume them.. If you get my DRIFT.. It is a City Park Facility !!

The facility has a cook shed with water, and TWO Barbecue Devices. Even a 110 Plug, but not sure if it is LIVE… No it would not make for an EV Charging spot (sorry). You can view the Facilities ( Cook Shack #3) and tables at the following: http://picasaweb.google.com/stevenslough1206/Gasless2010#

Have not decided exactly what SEVA will supply. For sure Charcoal, and perhaps Hot Dogs & Buns. Paper Plates, etc. The rest will be a Pot Luck for each Family attending.

I know there are some who are NOT on the e-mail list. If you know them… Call them… Get them IN the loop. We don’t want to go to all this trouble and only have 10 or 15 folks show up. I am counting on 30 or 40 !! Lets make it a REAL SEVA celebration !!

In the Parking Lot, Matt Schneider had his VW Vanagon with All Li-Ion Power, and Corry brought his Triumph Spitfire EV, and several others. Brian from Greenwood Car show was IMPRESSED !!

On to other items… We had TWO Bike Presentations. Ray and Russ want to start an EV Bike Club. Their contact INFO is Northwest Electric Bicycle Network at: ( Contacat@NWEbikeNetwork.com ) Or call 206 226 3264

Then there was Dennis Scar from No. Seattle Com. College, producing Bicycle Generators, which will be Grid connected to exercise while watching TV, and if you can SPIN fast enough, you could make your meter run backwards… ( well perhaps Lance Armstrong…)

Stephen Johnsen and Gene Seamor, and Rich Rudmand all went down to Infinieon Race Course in California to watch the TTXGP Electric Grand Prix motor cycle races. WOW !! Check out just ONE 40 minute race at http://tinyurl.com/3yxunsf It’s the first video clip you come to on a rather BIG web sight. Stephen also reminded us of another meeting of the Puget Sound Regional Council, hashing out details for our region for EV Charging. Next meeting this Friday at 9 am. At PSRC Conference Room 1011 Western Avenue, 5th Floor, Seattle Contact: Ivan Miller, 206-464-7549

Corry Cross of Pacific EV reported on a very robust Li-Ion Pack in one of Rick Woodberry’s TANGO cars. Turns out the original BMS modules were NOT watching over the batteries as they should have, although the TANGO logged over 120 miles at 60 mph, but put 5 or so of the Cells to an Early Grave… Lots of work removing the Pack from that skinny car, and fixing the problem, but all is well now…

Dave Cloud gave a great report on two PHOTO FINISH races between his two Team Members in Dave’s Electrathon racers… His daughter Shannon and David O’Neal. Quite a story to RACE for a whole hour and come cross the finish line within an INCH or two of each other.

Gave a brief report on the Green Festival. Chad Schwitters brought his TESLA, I brought my voice, and SEVA brochures. We missed Daniel Davids, but gave out LOTS of Plug-In-America literature. The GO Ahead to participate was an 11th hour nail-biter. For they did not agree to let us have a CAR on display till Thursday of last week. Lots of folks were glad we were there just the same.

One last thing… Jerry Asher, the EAA Chapter person, has been pushing us pretty hard to become a “Regional Director” to coordinate Charging Stations, and Media Coverage, and perhaps lodging for this RACE Round the World that being organized by the same guy that went round by him self, Louis Palmer and the “Solar Taxi” As many as 5 or 6 racers may be passing through the Seattle Area around November of this year. Right now, I do not feel like taking ON such a job. Any one else ??????

I hope a few folks can step forward to help with this Big SEVA Pic Nic thing… I will wait for your feed back.

And again as always… If you feel I have left something or some one un-said, please Chime IN.

See you all Saturday Morning EARLY and then at the Pic Nic from 4 pm ON…
