August 14th 2007 Meeting

What a wonderful Warm EV-ening. Lots of new folks brought their EVs for show-n-tell. Sending this out to some of our new members as well, who may or may not be on our SEVA e-mail list yet... ( enjoy )

Two of our most honored guests were Danielle and Martin from the Clean Energy Expo ( 9/9/07) and Bruce and assistant, from the King County sponsored EV-ent “Clean Vehicles NOW” 9/19/07) Both organizations would like to have as many SEVA members show their cars as possible, and have waived all fees. So it is a chance to see and BE Seen for FREE. I am to compile a list of folks who can show. Write me if you can attend, and I will forward to you instructions and details. Lets really TRY and make these two EV-Ents…

We are ALL FOR neighborhood events, but These are not SMALL neighborhood Events.. Please check out their web sites to see just how BIG these events are going to BE.

I know we have several folks going to the NEDRA Nationals 8/17, 18 at Portland Raceway. We wish them all the BEST. Dave Cloud (jokingly) said if he can not BREAK into the 100 mph club with 400 electric Horse Power, he's going to get out of the Bizz….

Also I see that several members will be at the Hot Summer Nights car show in Edmonds on 9/8 BOY is our calendar getting Full or WHAT!

3 axle Geo Metro

Sorry I did not get all the new names. But one gentleman who has been communicating with me on EV insurance maters, brought his 3 axle Geo Metro. Extra LONG. Gas in the front, 4 wheels in the back to carry the extra batteries to drive one pair of rear wheels. It will all have a nice skin over the rear area. A very professional job. His insurance company was reluctant to help him, so an agency down town, I think it was SNAP and Sons, a SAFCO agency was very eager to help him out. Could turn out to be a great EV Insurance source.

AC 88 VW Vanagon

Then Matt, a new member, brought his 88 VW Vanagon complete with 26 12V batteries, and an Asure AC Drive system and a new paint job. He runs it in 3rd gear, and has a lot of regen control. Great new addition to our SEVA group. I’m not sure his wife knows that the total conversion is close to $19.5 K (ouch)

Bruce Sherry, and Rich Rudman are working on a new generation of Battery Management Modules, which will be able to keep tabs on individual Li-Ion Cells, and talk to the charger and visa versa. Real HIGH TECH. I guess Bill Dube of Killacycle FAME is working on a high powered 12V starting battery for Big Diesels, made up out of A123 cells. We wish them all well.

One of the new members, Barbara Denovan of Edmonds, mentioned that Sherry Prange and Mike Brown from Electro-Automotive in San Francisco are coming up to Guemes Island in the San Juans to hold a Class on “How to convert your own Car” on November 5th through the 12th. Sponsored in part by Solar Energy International. Them’s that can, should drop in on them and say “Hello” Here is the link for the class where they are going to convert my car: http://www.solarenergy.org/workshops/workshop.php?id=45

Jake Oshins has his yellow Sparrow back on the road. Congratulations. The meeting went by so fast, we did not get a chance to ask him what it took, or what the reasons were. Perhaps after Jake reads this POST, he could let us all know. Congratulations on regaining your EV Grin.

Many new folks. Some wanting to convert a full size pick-up, others wanting to build an electric 3 Wheeler, others just wanting to know where to get a free way capable EV.

We encourage all of you to attend as many of these up-coming Events as possible.. Wear the SEVA colors, help answer questions, rub elbows with the “ high and mighty” Spread the good word.
