April 10th SEVA Meeting – And Other Wonderful EVents

Sorry this REPORT is tardy… But it has been a busy EV week.

First must report on our NEW meeting place. The Mosaic Community Coffee House. It is in the basement of the Discovery House on the corner of 2nd Ave and 44th Street. Just 2 blocks from Chuck’s house

We easily held a whopping 47 participants Tuesday evening. And the coffee isn’t bad either. I'd guess that about 20% were New and Nearly New Members !! Our only cost is the management’s encouragement for guests to buy coffee and things from their shop.

Most of the meeting was taken up with brief introductions of all 47 guests and members.

Highlights included a run down of Events over the next 6 weeks from Steve. Dave Cloud reported on his success with his Hybrid-Light Geo Metro, turning 47 mpg into 63+ with just 4 batteries and manual controls on EV Boost. Dave also brought a new 3 wheel electric assisted trike, for every one to test out. Dan Davids brought his new EV Parking/Charging signs he had made up, and sold a hand full right on the spot! They are $20. each ( at COST) He also brought in a fresh copy of Mechanics Illustrated which has a very comprehensive article on EVs and PHEVs New member, with a 3 wheel ZAP Chinese electric ( his name slips me ) reported on his problem starting UP on a hill, for the breaks and the parking breaks override the throttle, so there is quite a bit of role back, before the controller and motor kicks in.. Stephen Johnson and Paul Peavyhouse reported on EV Parking and Charging work they are doing.

I know I must be forgetting a lot. But HAY ! Others can chime in with their favorite SEVA Meeting Story at Any Time… with my blessings.

Now other EV News: Saturday April 14th at Mert.Ed. Waterfront Park. STEP IT UP - National Action Rally for Global Warming. BOY what a day. I brought our SEVA Banner, Dan Davids brought his beautiful Rav4-EV and then the rain came. I ran my 12V service Bat down in my Insight, and couldn’t even role up my power windows. But HAY the Sun came back out as the 1500 PLUS parade of Global Warming Warriors marched in from down town, along with Mayor Nichols, Ron Sims, and Congressman Jay Inslee. Dan David’s got to be chauffeur for the politico’s They all made eloquent speeches on behalf of Global Warming Legislation.

Then it was time for me to beat-feet to a neighborhood church where we aired yet another free showing of “Who Killed the Electric Car” to a packed house. But WAIT How do you start a dead Insight with no jumper cables, no battery. You find two short scraps of 12 gauge house wiring, borrow a battery from one of the Solar Power booths, and three volunteers. One to hold the wires against the boost battery, One to hold the other ends on the Insight battery, and One to HIT the IGNITION SWITCH, and in 10 micro-seconds all is well again…

Don’t forget the TWO NEXT Events… April 17th, Pam and Jerimy from Puget Sound Solar ( personal friends of WKtEC’s Chris Paine) want us to attend a show-n-tell at Bellevue Community College 9 am to 2 pm.

Then April 22nd in Port Townsend… I’m sure Roderick will be there, and folks from MC Electric.

Next Month’ SEVA Meeting ( May 8th) will again be at Mosaic Coffee. Other dates in May? May 5,6,7,14-15 Check the SEVA Calendar for Details ! Till Then…
