November 12th 2013 Meeting

( A special THANKS to our newly RE-elected SEVA Recording Secretary, Kevin for his fine work and absolutely lightning fast posting of the minutes.. We had the minutes in our possession for approval, for the last time as outgoing President, even before we got to use the wonderful ceremonial MUG we received !!)

SEVA Meeting Minutes: November, 12 2013, –Called to order. Officers introduced. 52 persons in attendance.

WELCOME NEW FACES!! We have a couple joining us, who are new Leaf owners.

WHAT A LONG, STRANGE TRIP IT’S BEEN. President Steve Lough shared some personal history about his long adventure with electric vehicles.

LEGISLATIVE – Jeff Finn announced Sandra Pinto from Seattle’s Office of Sustainability and the Environment. Sandra talked about the steps the city has been taking to get Seattle “plug-in ready” and the work the city has done to organize and implement an EV-friendly environment. Among the tidbits: Seattle has determined an EV in the city motor pool pays for itself in half the time it takes a hybrid vehicle.

SCIENCE – Jeff also took the floor to talk about the scientific advances that are being made in the pursuit of zero emission energies, as well as the pricing and incentives that are being provided for vehicle charging systems by NISSAN. Members were encouraged to become involved. If you have a location or business which could install a L-3 system, Nissan could pass along a grant up to $10,000 to off set the cost.

WELCOME – Steve Lough took a moment to introduce his wife Donna and their daughter Shannon Electra who were present at the meeting to be a part of Steven’s last meeting as President.

POLITICAL AGENDA – Mark Schiller took the floor to discuss the highlights of SEVA’s legislative agenda, as well as to update the membership regarding the development of our new website.

Don MacKenzie from UW - MIT approached the membership with a survey for a research project they are doing to study home charging needs and the like.

CAR SHOW at the XXX Drive In in ISSAQUAH – Possibly May 11th or September 21st. They have room for over 300 cars. Must buy liability Insurance to protect the town of Issaquah. Entry fee may be round $15. with SEVA footing part of the bill.

NEW TRIFOLD – Our new trifold informational brochure will have some charging stations listed on the back. does not’t cost any more to use duplex printing! ALSO A LEVEL 3 LIST – A list of Level 3 charging stations in Washington and Oregon has been provided by member Don Barr. This LIST will be posted to a WEB SITE and Web Address soon, so any one can down load a copy

ELECTRIC BIKE –Scotty Vandivort demonstrated his electric bicycle. WOW Wheelies, and 50 mph on an AC motor and 120 volts of lithium in his back-pack.

“TAKE BACK YOUR POWER” – There is a documentary out regarding the possible pitfalls and EMR dangers of “remote” charging and Smart Metering systems. Although a bit OT for our SEVA, interesting to keep up with such things. Laura gave out information for the screening of the documentary.

MEMBERSHIP – Our SEVA Membership Chairman, John Mark, made his PITCH to encourage one and all to join the EAA. New people, we especially invite to join this national level organization. They have been doing our business for us all at the National level since the early 70's, Educating, Demonstrating, and Proliferating the use of Electric Vehicles towards the day when these were available and affordable for all.

ELECTIONS – Steve Lough led the final call for nominations. Nominations were closed. Our Board of Director nominees were, Kevin Boze, Recording Secretary; Mark Yormark, Treasurer; Mark Schiller, Vice President; and Stephen Johnsen, President. All in favor were asked to signify with a verbal YA, and the vote was unanimous. Steven shook the hands of Stephen, Mark, Mark, and Kevin, and the torch was passed on to the New Board, without bloodshed. CHEERS! To further honor and recognize our outgoing President, Steve Lough, was presented with a commemorative marine-style stein in recognition for his service. As the formal meeting broke up into general discussions, folks congratulated both the new board, and our outgoing President Steve. No tears were shed, but many hand shakes and hugs.

PS: I did forget one thing, between Kevin's notes and some of my thoughts. The very democratic choosing of a new proper logo for the new Web Site Designs. The work our SEVA folks, Grace, Mark S. and others have put in on this endeavor, but especially the students up at Central Seattle Community College are not to go on without recognition. They put together SIX choices for a new logo. Unfortunately none were quite as compelling as our tried and true LOGO of the EAA Electric Car, with our name below that and our Web Address... More or less like the logo on our T-Shirts and Name tags, Which once voted on ..won the day..

DRAWING – Congratulations to the winner of our monthly drawing. Our outgoing SEVA Treasurer, Chuck Benson. Also the association raffled off a turkey in keeping with the spirit of the season. A great 10 lb bird was given to the winner.

As many times before, any one wishing to add comments or corrections to these meeting minutes are free to do so by e-mail. We wish all our SEVA friends and members a great Thanksgiving Holiday. We in the Pacific N.W. have much to be thankful for.

See you all December 10th if not before.
