Our monthly meetings are held at the Church of the Nazarene above the Mosaic Community Coffee House.

Join us at our SEVA Meetings

Unless otherwise posted here, or sent out over the SEVA Maillist each Monthly Meeting is Held on the Evening of the Second Tuesday of each Month commencing at 7 p.m. or there about. Meetings are held at the Church of the Nazarene at 44th St. NE, and 3rd Ave NE, just behind Dicks Drive In on 45th. Their fire damage has been repaired, and they welcome us back. We encourage visitors and members to help support this free venue with the purchase of some fine coffee and other refreshments downstairs at the Mosaic Community Coffee House.

October 12th 2010 Meeting

ONE more reason to start thinking about Elections for SEVA Officers this November, or at least before the end of the year.

I FORGOT TO BRING UP THE SUBJECT OF THE Z E R O R A C E !!!

Now I have communicated with Luis Palmer, long distance from Switzerland… and he did give me some up dates.

  1. There are only 3 vehicles in the EVent.
  2. Only 8 Team members will be coming through Seattle.
  3. All of the folks need 220/240 V charging.
  4. They all have their own plugs, adaptors, and cords.
  5. They have funds for Room and Board, but would prefer staying in SEVA Members homes.
  6. And last of course to get some good Media and Press coverage.

I could probably put up one team, one car, two folks. And I could supply 220V Charging. So that leaves 2 additional teams and 6 other folks for a bed, a cot, an air mattress. I think for MEDIA, and access to the I-5 Corridor we should stick to the Seattle Side of the Lake.

Next big item. Short Notice. Odyssey 2010 ! A World Wide celebration of Alternative Fuel and Transportation. In Seattle it will be held in the Automotive Section of Shoreline Community College. At the meeting last night, only one person raised their had to volunteer to bring an EV to the EV-ent… Now there is a chance to bring Kent’s beautiful VW Beatle Electric. My question to all of you…. Is there any one else who could join us??

Jeff Finn gave us a report on Political matters, urging members to forward the PSRC document recommendations and guidelines to any and all political friends we might be friends with. Both a the Local, County, and State level.

Mark Yormark gave a report on his Electric Corvette project. Complete with a 3D model of the problems of fitting a Siamese DC-AC motor into the Corvette Engine compartment. Quite daunting and expensive to give a Gas Corvette the same POWER with clean US Electrons. But he is not discouraged.

Dr. John Hurd, a new member gave a report on his ideas for a 2-place human powered electric hybrid.

Barbara Denovan gave a report on classes being offered by South Seattle Communications College in the Fall and Winter quarters. Folks interested in this should check out their web sight at: http://www.LearnAtSouth.org

Discussions on our SEVA e-mail and attachments led to Ryan increasing the window from 60k to 120k.

Daniel Davids, Stephen Johnson, and my self gave a good report on the VOLT ride-n-drive last week end, complete with pictures and videos. And the start up of a public charging station at a church in Woodinville. Pictures can be seen at: http://picasaweb.google.com/stevenslough1206/VOLTageDay#

Mike Willmon (electrabishi@gmail.com ) gave a report on what is going on in EV Racing and the National Electric Drag Racing Association.

Dave Kois (dkois-at-yahoo.com ) of http://CurrentEVTEC.com, gave us a Show-n-Tell of his adaptors for using standard 220/240 volt plugs into the new J1772 plugs and cords. His company builds these boxes, and vary in price from $250 to around $600. One interesting thing. These plugs we have been using, similar to what is used in an electric stove, are capable of a 50 amp draw. But if you plug into one of the new public charging stations which is only set at 30 amps, and try and draw 50… you could trip the circuit breakers. So if you are using your home built car, with your charger capable of 50 amps, make sure you TURN down the current when plugging into a Public or For Pay Charging Station. On the other hand… The VOLT’s, the LEAF’s and other commercial Electric cars already have regulation of current draw. Not to worry…

John Frost, our Treasurer, made a URGENT call for High Res. EV Car Pictures for the 2011 SEVA EV Calendar… You can send him your pictures to: FrostJF-at-msn.com

As always… If any one feels I have left something out in these minutes… PLEASE Nominate yourself for SEVA Secretary Officer, and then send the addition/corrections to the list and to our Web Sight…
