July 13th 2010 Meeting

BOY ! What a Barn- Burner ! 15 Electric Cars in the parking lot, 72 People in the Meeting Room, and a half dozen Electric Bikes !

Sure wish I could find some one with good writing skills, a flair for humor, and either a photographic Mind, or a good digital recorder, for doing these Meeting Minutes is a responsibility I wish I could pass on to some one else.

We reviewed “Gasless on Greenwood” $ 900. Cost, 29 electric cars, 2 Phi’s, and Electric Bikes. We had the better part of a block on the street, plus our display lot was FULL. People streaming in to ask questions all day long. And afterwards, a great SEVA Picnic at our parking lot at Woodland Park (south) For the few who did not get to be there, a few pictures at: (http://picasaweb.google.com/stevenslough1206/Gasless2010# )

Jeff Finn, Stephen Johnsen, and Daniel Davids gave reports on the PSRC ( Puget Sound Regional Councils) monumental document Guideline for communities and Charging Infrastructure. It does not address anything about building your own EV, but does give good solid guidelines on what towns, cities, counties, etc. should do when installing EV Infrastructure. The Final Draft of the document may be found at: http://www.psrc.org/assets/4128/Final_Draft_Model_MainDoc_070210.pdf. Associated document appendices may be found at :http://www.psrc.org/assets/4126/Final_Draft_Model_Appendices_070210.pdf. We would like all EAA chapters in the state to send a letter of agreement, once folks have all had a chance to read the document, and comment on it. Here is the wording that Jeff suggested: "The Seattle Electric Vehicle Association (the largest Chapter of the Electric Automobile Association) agrees with the information presented in the Electric Vehicle Infrastructure: A Guide for Local Governments publication prepared by the Washington State Department of Commerce and the Puget Sound Regional Council and encourages all local government jurisdictions in Washington State to use this comprehensive document as their primary guide for the adoption of ordinances and regulations pertaining to electric vehicle infrastructure within their jurisdiction."

He also reported on talking with State Legislators on other EV matters like Free access to HOV Lanes, Free Parking, etc. Most ideas were put aside for lack of the size of our small constituency presently..

Next: The Shoreline Solar Fest this week end, July 16th and 17th . A heartfelt CALL for EV’ers to participate, but we only came up with 2 EV’s One Hybrid, and some Electric Bikes. Too bad… This is a big EVENT, and Marcello ( Xof One) of Solar Car fame will be here in Seattle to lecturing, along with the possible Pass-Through of the “Racing Green Endurance” car which is due through Seattle on Friday or Saturday. See the car and their journey the total length of the Pan American Highway at:(http://www.racinggreenendurance.com )

Next we brought to everyone’s attention the National group called “Electrification Coalition “ and their efforts to help pass Senate Bill 3442. Read all about it at: (http://www.electrificationcoalition.org/ ) They have some very clever TV adds to bring attention to this very PRO – EV Legislation.

Larry Gales and company announced the N.W. E Bike Networks electric bike Rally to be held on July 31st for a 12 mile ride from Golden Gardens to Gasworks Park and back. Check them out at: www.nwebikenetwork.com

Don B. suggested we should take a LEAF order Head Count. Came up with aprox. 15 + folks who are on the waiting list.

Dave Crow gave a brief presentation of his very efficient 3 wheel motor-cycle Car. It will be one of the cars at Solar Fest.

Dave Cloud was honored for his 200 mile highway trip in his Dalphene/Geo/Streamliner car this month. He was interviewed by Bill Moore of EVWorld, and the 24 minute interview can be heard at: http://www.evworld.com/article.cfm?storyid=1887
