Our monthly meetings are held at the Church of the Nazarene above the Mosaic Community Coffee House.

Join us at our SEVA Meetings

Unless otherwise posted here, or sent out over the SEVA Maillist each Monthly Meeting is Held on the Evening of the Second Tuesday of each Month commencing at 7 p.m. or there about. Meetings are held at the Church of the Nazarene at 44th St. NE, and 3rd Ave NE, just behind Dicks Drive In on 45th. Their fire damage has been repaired, and they welcome us back. We encourage visitors and members to help support this free venue with the purchase of some fine coffee and other refreshments downstairs at the Mosaic Community Coffee House.

May 22th 2010 Meeting

First things First. It was a great meeting. Lots of new and exciting vehicles outside. Eric’s from scratch chassis, Dave Cloud’s Streamliner, Cory’s Triumph Spitfire, Chris’s club-cab Mazda Pick up, come all the way from Whidbey Island, and many regulars… Thanks to Chuck Besnson for allowing Chris to receive the Charge he needed to return home to Whidbey Island.

The Person count was OVER 70 folks.

I want to apologize for not strictly following my own Meeting Agenda. For we MISSED talking about the Greenwood Car Show, Saturday June 26th. We have ONE more meeting before the EV-ent, so I am confident we can orchestrate the BEST EV Show EVER. TWO items. We need folks to go down to our area and reserve and rope off at least 10 spots ON THE STREET very early Saturday morning, like the OTHER Car Clubs do.. I will attempt to orchestrate this from the direction of Show Management as well. SECOND: as we have grown, the logistics of having our Annual SEVA picnic at our home on 32nd NE is a bit problematic. Not to mention Street Prking for Cars and Trailers. So here is an IDEA. Just north of the Parking Lot off of 50th and Whitman, is Woodland Park, and within sight of the parking lot is one of the many picnic canopies, complete with tables, shelter, and cooking facilities. I am sure they can be reserved, and folks would not have to try and find ON STREET parking round our home, for they would already BE THERE. What do you think ???

Now to the REST of the meeting, not necessarily in order of importance:

Within the next few months, we would like to hold General Elections for the Four Officers of SEVA, specifically President, VP, Secretary, and Treasurer. I have discussed this with the BOARD, and I think it is a good time to bring new faces into the Board.

We then went on to discuss how many people have signed onto the LEAF waiting list. It looked like approximately one out of 10 of the 70 or so folks who attended Tuesday evening.

Up Coming Events… Hopefully in order

May 12th: First Today at 9 am the Puget Sound Regional Council is having their next meeting on Electric Car Infrastructure. Our representatives Stephen Johnsen, and Daniel Davids will hopefully report back to us soon.

May 15th We have been invited to participate in a weekly impromptu car show in the parking lot just west of 150th and Aurora north near the Central Market and the Sears store. No fees, just show up if you wish. They get together each and every Saturday. It is called CARS & COFFEE sponsored by the City of Shoreline and the Central Market. If you need additional info write: ( info@carsandcoffeewa.com. )

May 29th Saturday: The idea which Dave Barden put out to have another “Cruz Round Seattle” EV Parade was received well. I will POST to the Daily SEVA e-mail list more details on this. Unfortunately, Chad told us that most of the Tesla folks will be in Ellinsberg WA. that week end for an Enviro Fair.

June 28th Monday: We have been invited to give a brief talk on ELECTRIC CARS at the Seattle Campus of CH2MHill, and they would LOVE to have a Tesla show up. More on Time and Exact Location as 6/28 draws near.

Now OFF a little further: July 17th We have been invited back to participate in Shoreline Solar Fest. Info at: ( http://www.shorelinesolar.org/page/13137 )

And NEDRA events in Portland also on July 16th and 17th, and again September 10th and 11th. To keep up with this visit: ( www.nedra.org )

And in October, South Seattle Community College has invited us back to be part of their JOBS and Environment Fair October 7th and 8th.

Then on to individual reports: Eric gave us a run down on his “From Scratch” roadster, now attempting to get a license and title for it. Seems there are issues with fenders, and lights. But we are sure he will prevail.

Chuck Hukaby gave us a slide show on where the batteries are coming from for the Hybrid Busses. Would you believe they are buying Toyota Prius metal hydride PACKS and assembling them into 600 Volt batteries of their own !!!

Following this Electric Bus subject, Chuck Lare gave a brief report of our efforts to engage KK Metro in talks to further the use of electric busses, and to have the work building these busses right here IN STATE, much like the mandate which states that Washington State Ferries must be built in ship yards IN STATE. We are calling this initiative The Green Electric Bus Initiative (GEBI). A had full of our members have been meeting with Chuck to work on this, on the heels of the Sunday Seattle Times articles. I will also be trying to engage Ron Johnston-Rodriquez from Wenatchee, and Steve Marshall of Cascadia into this, for all their experience dealing with political and funding matters.

Mark Dormark gave us a brief report on his DREAM project to convert to Electric a Late Model Corvette. As we know one of the daunting tasks is interfacing with several computers, and sensors throughout the car. I am going to get him in contact with Malloy Services up in Lynnwood, who has had experience with late model cars, and all their computer interfaces. ( 425-772-9283 css.shop@verizon.net )

Tracy Farwell gave a very interesting presentation on Solar PV charging of our Electric Cars, and the many Washington State incentives which are in place. Also from the back of the room, Jeremy from Puget Sound Solar was there to add to the information.

Special thanks to Jim Blaisdell from CHARGE Northwest, who gave us a whole box full of Access Debit Magnetic Cards which can be used to access the charging stations which they are busy installing throughout the Pacific North West. Most are Level-1 for now, and in time, one will have to join and pay some fees. But for now they are ours to use. We raffled them off randomly. Many THANKS Jim!!

Jake Oceans ( Yellow Sparrow Owner ) had a Whole Wagon full of EV Parts for anyone interested. He will be POSTING an add for the parts soon, if no one steps forward from the meeting.

It was not reported during the meeting, but Stephen Johnsen told us that the S-10 truck from the So Seattle last EV Build Class, using 50 KWatts of Manzanita Micro LiIon 13V Battery Box assemblies complete with BMS is now under testing. We HOPE to see this Power House at the June Meeting.

As before, and always… If I have left a subject or article out in error, you are all encouraged to add to this THREAD or to modify the Meeting Minutes which we also POST to our Web Sight. At: ( http://www.seattleeva.org/wiki/EVents_2010_05_11 )
