Join us at our SEVA Meetings

Unless otherwise posted here, or sent out over the SEVA Maillist each Monthly Meeting is Held on the Evening of the Second Tuesday of each Month commencing at 7 p.m. or there about. Meetings are held at the Church of the Nazarene at 44th St. NE, and 3rd Ave NE, just behind Dicks Drive In on 45th. Their fire damage has been repaired, and they welcome us back. We encourage visitors and members to help support this free venue with the purchase of some fine coffee and other refreshments downstairs at the Mosaic Community Coffee House.

August 11th 2009 Meeting MINUTES

For the 3rd month in a row, the meeting rooms at the church on 44th were deemed uninhabitable by the city, and by church management. Seems as the city dug round in the smoke damage, they found dozens of things which they insisted be brought up from 1960’s standards to 21st century standards. Who knows what will come of the church. So the call has gone out to ALL MEMBERS to search out a New Meeting place, capable of accommodating from 50 to 80 folks, and no farther North tan 75th, and no further South than South Lake Union. We discussed 3 new EV-ents coming up: Saturday, Aug. 22nd, Green Car Co. is sponsoring a 100 mpg Challenge in Bellevue driving Plug-In Hybrids on a specific course. Inquiries call 425-820-4549 or write to Anthony@greencarco.com Then come Sunday Sep. 20th, the community of Lake Forest Park will be having an enviro-fiar.. Contact: Rob at robstevens5@comcast.net for details. Then on October 3rd there will be an EV-ent in south Everett. Green Everett Sustainable Fair. For more info contact: deansmith4@me.com We discussed the many HOOPS one has to jump through to trade in your “Clunker” for a cash discount on a new higher mileage vehicle. What is very odd. NEV’s do not fit this bill, and I do not think TESLA does either. Our purchase of a smaller higher mileage SUV took us 6 hours at a Pueallup Auto Dealer. We had no less than 12 EV’s show up this month. All this and no place to hold the meeting other than the lot, and the stairs of the Church. Eric brought his “FROM-SCRATCH built car. Much beautiful steel and welding workmanship. He’s just about ready to add batteries. Greg Hall brought his Honda CRX, 144V 8” ADC. And Craig brought his Mercedes (VW) kit car Electric, as well as the other 9 regulars to include Dave’s beautiful yellow Tesla. Dave Cloud spoke of his trip to Detroit, where he came in 1 mile short of a world record for Electrathon racing, and his adventures with his Rail Dragster at the Wayland Invitational. A few simple mistakes probably kept him from the 100 mpg club in a unit using 10 year old wet cell batteries. Some very imaginative pneumatic switching from series to parallel, and half voltage to full voltage gave him his edge. We really miss not having a space to show pictures and videos. Perhaps next month. There were cars from Alaska, Oregon, Idaho, California, and of course 4 TESLAs from Washington, along with Jeffri Smith, who brought his ZENN all the way from Seattle, to set a new 72 Volt Production Car record at just over 40 mph. Many of my pictures can still be seen at: http://picasaweb.google.com/stevenslough1206/WaylandDrags09# News came down that the new Jay Leno Show will be featuring EV Races out in the studio parking lot... Look for his premiere on Sep. 14th on NBC We also talked about SEVA’s experience of racing out at Seattle Pacific Raceway. They were really not ready for Electric Cars. But we are working on them with help from Stephen J. and James M. and Dave C. and others. We discussed why it is that SSCC has so few applicants for the Conversion Class this quarter. Ideas were that the Economy is slow, Gas prices are Low, summer weather and vacations, etc. I have written to SSCC and mentioned we need more attention to Publicity and Media for the classes. John Frost as turned in many receipts from this summers activities, and got money back from the EAA to bring our treasury up over $1300. which should last us through to next year just fine. Once again, our # ONE Priority is to secure a new meeting place. So any and all suggestions shall be gratefully accepted. Till Next Month….
