Your instructor, Steven Lough, has been a leader in the Electric Vehicle field for over 29 years. His family GM Dealership took on a line of commercially built electric vehicles back in 1980. A handout listing resources for seeing, obtaining, converting, and repairing electric vehicles will be given to each student.

Class Description: Whether you have a hybrid, a plug-in hybrid, a car that just uses electricity stored in batteries, or a car that runs on gasoline but uses a battery to run the accessories, you will want to know this information. Topics covered will include: general overview of popular suitable batteries for EVs, comparison of costs and specs of various available batteries, calculating the kWhr rating of my pack, ways to extend battery life, and charging and recycling of batteries.

Class Fee: $99

Class Description: Want to convert your normal bike to electric? If your travelling requirements remain within the city limits, then an e-bike is an excellent way to commute--for short trips, the efficiency and convenience of electric bikes is hard to beat. You will go through the process of actually converting a bike. In addition, the class teaches bike safety, bike laws and basic maintenance and tips for doing your own conversion.

There have since been many new developments in electric bicycles. There are so many choices for potential owners that it's easy to get overwhelmed. Do you want to buy a purpose-built bike, install a conversion kit, or build the whole thing from scratch? What about motor, batter, and power controller selection? Do you want a pedal-assist system, power-on-demand hybrid, or a dedicated electric motorcycles? What are the local ordinances governing the use of electric bikes?
