Workshop Description

This workshop guides you through the complete process of converting a

vehicle from a gasoline engine to electric power. Morning classroom
 +
sessions will be combined with afternoon hands-on shop sessions. By the
 +
end of the workshop, the group will have completed one running electric
 +
car conversion capable of highway speeds and 40-60 mile range
 +
per charge.  Short multiple daily charges can increase your range.

You will learn the principles behind good component layout, battery
 +
rack, and box design and construction, and wiring, with hands-on
 +
experience installing the components. You will also learn how to apply
 +
these principles to different types of vehicles, and learn about the
 +
differences between AC and DC drive systems, and different types of
 +
batteries. Each student will receive a copy of the book "Convert It"
 +

The class will work together on one "donor VW Rabbit" that will be

completely converted to a "Voltsrabbit" electric vehicle.

ONE LUCKY student will donate his or her Donor Car for the Conversion...

Mike Brown and Shari Prange are owners of Electro Automotive

(www.electroauto.com), founded in 1979 as a parts supplier for home
 +
built electric vehicle conversions. Mike Brown had many years of
 +
experience in automotive service and repair, engine building, and race
 +
car building before turning exclusively to electric conversions. He and
 +
his wife Shari Prange co-authored the book "'Convert It", which has long
 +
been the primary how-to reference book for conversions. They have taught
 +
many electric vehicle classes and workshops, written for "Home Power"
 +
magazine, and now serve as transportation editors for "Home Power".

Other members of the Seattle EV Community will also be present
