  • 2007.12.26 - The Ethanol Myth - Consumer Reports' E85 tests show that you’ll get cleaner emissions but poorer fuel economy—that is if you can find E85.
    • This article brings to light many of the reasons I am not fond of ethanol. It also mentions how Bush and the automakers are touting it so much and how the car companies get precious emissions credits for all their Flex Fuel vehicles even though most of them never even wind up running on Ethanol. I also liked how the mpg for ethanol in the city was 7 mpg?! Sheesh! Give me a break!
  • 2007.10.29 - Biofuels: Salvation or Crimes Against Humanity? - According to a U.N. expert biofuels represent a crime against mankind.
More corn now goes to production of fuel than for food. It takes 510 pounds of corn to produce 13 gallons of ethanol. That much corn could feed a child in Zambia or Mexico for a year. Even more interesting than the article is the spirited discussions after the article.
  • 2007.10 - Biofuels Compared - See how emerging biofuels compare and hear about the benefits and potential costs of alternative fuels.
The energy efficiency of ethanol from corn is 1.3 (i.e., for every kilowatt of fossil fuel you put in, you get 1.3 kilowatts out). The energy efficienty of ethanol from sugar cane is 8 (which is why brazil is so far ahead than us in biofuels) Biodiesel 2.5. Cellulose is from 2 to 36, depending on the method. unfortunately the technology is still in development. algae are also very promising.
