'''Magnuson Park's Alternative Fuel Vehicles "Rally"'''

Gas prices in the state of Washington are the highest in recent history. Interested in learning about alternatives to a gas-guzzling SUV? Come to the Alternatively Fueled Vehicle Rally at Magnuson Park on April 23 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. The event will take place in the Magnuson Park parking lot adjacent building 67.

The "rally" will feature a variety of alternatively fueled vehicles from independent companies. Electric cars, bicycles, and trucks, and natural gas-fueled vehicles will be on view. Local industry representatives and City staff will be on hand to discuss the advantages to using fewer gasoline-dependent vehicles and answer questions.

Motor vehicles are the primary source of air pollution in the central Puget Sound region. About 60 percent of the region's emissions of the greenhouse gases that accelerate global warming come from tailpipes, and about 70 percent of the toxic air pollution is from diesel emissions from trucks, buses, ships, and other sources.

The City of Seattle is a national leader in the integration of alternatively fueled vehicles into its fleet. Seattle Parks and Recreation, one of the city's largest departments, uses more than 60 "clean" cars, trucks and bikes. Magnuson Park has demonstrated its' commitment to the environment by investing in alternatively fueled vehicles on its campus. Magnuson Park currently has a goal of using alternatively fueled vehicles. The campus uses electric trucks, a hybrid car and segways on a regular basis to cut back on emissions. The alternative fuel event is part of the park's efforts to educate the public about being responsible stewards of our natural environment.

The environmental learning center unit, which offers environmental education programs year-round, is co-sponsoring the event. For more information about attending the event, please call the Discovery Park at 206-733-9434. Vendors must be present with their vehicles. Once inside the park continue for two blocks; at the intersection of 74ths and 63rd (by fire station) turn left. Proceed one block north and take another left; go past Hangar 2 (Arena Sports) and continue to unmarked intersection; take a final left and proceed south 200 feet, just past building 67." # # #
