There are basically two types of energy or fuel resources available for powering society, including out cars.
One is the type which has been dominate for a few centuries which take the form of Coal, Oil, and Natural Gas which are all long time frame solar resources. Nuclear Wikipedia:Nuclear Fission is also an even longer time frame solar byproduct, though because the materials aren't strictly terrestrial, having been produced in the hearts of long dead stars, it's generally tends to fall into the clean category as it is not carbon based. The other forms of energy which we will eventually be forced to transition to are short time frame solar resources or near-term solar resources such as PV electric and direct heat Solar, Wind, Hydro, and even forms of bio-fuels. All of these near and long term solar forms are the result of Wikipedia:Nuclear Fusion occurring in stars.
A good place to start your research is locally - browse the SEVA Forum and see what others are saying about a particular company. * Each weekend, about 54 million Americans mow their lawns, using 800 million gallons of gas per year and producing tons of air pollutants. Garden equipment engines, which have had unregulated emissions untill very recently, emit high levels of carbon monoxide, volatile organic compounds and nitrogen oxides, producing up to 5% of the nation's air pollution and a good deal more in metropolitan areas.
Wa. State Climate Mitigation Plans
2007.12.21 - http://www.ecy.wa.gov/climatechange/CATdocs/122107_1_recommendations.pdf

Here is WA states draft of what they plan to do for climate change. It's open for public comment until Jan 10th, so if we want to suggest anything we better get going. It's a long document and they have mentioned PHEV's, but not pure EV's. I don't know if it is possible to convince them to make a bigger push for EV's, but they could really cut GHG emissions by pushing this area. They also are looking to reduce foreign oil imports which EV's can accoplish, especially with our hydro power availability.

Are we going to comment as a group or individually, or both? Only 10% PHEV's by 2020 means the world is in for deep trouble IMHO.

Below are some excerpts from the overall general plan which includes PHEV's:
:All five of the TWG (technical working group) sectors present significant opportunities for emissions reductions and removals, as shown in Figure 5. Some highlights are outlined here, and more discussion is provided in Section V. Not surprisingly, the transportation sector, <u>which accounts for nearly half the State’s emissions, offers significant emissions reduction potential through increasing vehicle and transportation system efficiency, and reducing vehicle travel from transit, community design, and other measures.</u> Alternative vehicle fuels can also play a major role in the transportation sector by 2020, through a low carbon fuel standard and <u>plug-in hybrid electric vehicle incentives</u>, as well as through the agriculture and forestry sector, where the CAT recommends goals for producing 250 million gallons of liquid fuels from biomass by 2020. Another major contributor to potential emissions savings in the agriculture and forestry sectors by 2020 is avoiding the conversion of farm and forest lands, and the resulting loss of carbon stored in trees and soil. Expanding recycling, reuse, and source reduction of municipal waste accounts for about half the emissions reductions in the agriculture/waste column shown. Improvements in building energy efficiency and community design, increasing natural gas efficiency programs, and increasing efficiency standards account for a significant fraction of the emissions reduction shown for the residential, commercial, and industrial sectors. In the energy supply sector, increasing the contribution of renewable and combined heat and power sources are the principal sources of quantified emission reductions shown.
NO. 6 recommendation:
: Acceleration and Integration of <u>Plug-In Hybrid Electric Vehicle (PHEV) Use</u> (T-10) speeds up the deployment of PHEV technology, removes barriers to more rapid adoption, creates initial incentives, and provides for the integration of PHEVs with other energy systems. This strategy aims for <u>PHEVs to account for 10% of cars</u>, SUVs and small trucks’ VMT statewide by 2020. Improvements to Freight Railroads and Intercity Passenger Railroads (T-6) includes expanded use of anti-idle technologies and practices would reduce locomotive idling.
Electric Vehicle State Legislation - Needs YOUR HELP
Come ONE Come ALL To OLYMPIA Washington
to put your Support behind House Bill 1820

What DATE: Wednesday February 14th, 2007
Where: Car Pooling from MC Electric Dearborne Street, Seattle
When: 1:30 p.m. push off time to Olympia
Who: All SEVA members or any one else who would like to
See the proliferation of EVs and NEV's by
making them more marketable, with a top speed of 35
in stead of the very limited 25 mph !
WHY:WHERE AS, the popularization and utilization of Electric Vehicles (EVs)
Can drastically reduce our dependence on foreign Oil.

WHERE AS, the efficiency of an EV is 4 to 5 times that of petrol driven
Internal combustion vehicles per dollar of energy.

WHERE AS, the pollution per mile of an EV is much less than an Internal
Combustion Engines, using any and all known fuels, even if the
electricity is derived from Coal Fired electric generation, and MANY
times cleaner when derived from hydro, or renewable energy
like wind and solar.

WHERE AS, Neighborhood Electric Vehicles, (NEV’s) cost less, and are more
available than most free-way certified EV’s, Hybrids and yet to be available
Plug-In Hybrids.

WHERE AS, most urban automobile trips are within the range per charge
of most NEV's and other EV’s.

WHERE AS, the Department of Energy has determined that existing
available electric energy in the National Grid, could power
80% of today’s vehicles if recharged during OFF-PEAK periods.

WHERE AS, the present federal and state category of “low speed Electric
Vehicles” limits their arterial road speed to 25 m.p.h. which
greatly inhibits their marketability.

WHERE AS, other vehicle types, which do not go through crash testing,
Roll-over testing, and implementation of Air Bags ARE
allowed no speed restrictions, such as motor cycles, and
Certain 3-wheel vehicles..

NOW, THEREFORE,
The Board of Directors and Members of the Seattle EV Association, strongly urge
passage of House Bill 1820, which when passed will change local NEV Regulations
to allow them to attain speeds of 30 to 35 miles per hour on appropriate streets and
arterials, but limit their use to local and state controlled streets, and their exclusion
from Federal Highways will remain.. We further more urge citizens to contact their
Local and state legislators and individually urge passage of HB 1820.

The total Bill, and all the facts behind it can be seen at the Wa Gov.
http://apps.leg.wa.gov/billinfo/summary.aspx?bill=1820&year=2007

See you there !!!!

If you plan on going down on your OWN, call MC Electric for further Details on the exact building,
and room number for the 3:30 pm hearing. (206) 328 1750
SEVA and FlexCar
It's official! The FlexCar chapter in Seattle, is giving special membership and discounts to any one in the Seattle EV Association driving/owning an Electric Vehicle or a Neighborhood EV!

I think this is a marriage made in EV Heaven. Here is how it works.
An EV owner/user signs up, takes a $50 discount, and drives to any one of many FlexCar parking lots round Seattle. Park your EV, pick up your Honda, or even a few Honda Hybrids, and drive your 50 100 150 mile trip.
Some FlexCar pick-up points will even allow you to charge your 20 to 40 mile/per/charge EV while you make your 100, 200 mile trip.

I know there are other FlexCar outlets in Portland OR. and I think
San Francisco too. Our local manager, Tracy Carroll, one of the original FlexCar founders, should spread the concept to their other outlets.

Here below is a Press-Release-announcement I sent to our local NPR Radio station (KUOW) here in Seattle, a few days ago:

"The Seattle EV Association and FlexCar have teamed up to offer a winning combination to folks who wish to own an EV but often need a vehicle to go a greater distance. Special FlexCar membership discounts, as well as free parking at FlexCar pick-up locations have been offered to any SEVA member owning and operating an EV or NEV. Also in some FlexCar locations modest Re-Charging facilities may be offered as well, thereby greatly enhancing the operating characteristics of EV ownership."

AS a follow up to this, Tracy has a FlexCar customer who works at another NPR station here in the Seattle area ( KEXP 90.3 Mhz ) and Tracy and I will be interviewed on the 25th on the above subject for a program which will be aired on their local program "Sustain ability" on the 28th or 29th...(not sure)
The account of a suspicious arson at a factory in which Henry Ford and Thomas Edison hoped to launch a new partnership is fascinating. Black and his team of researchers did a masterful job in digging out historical details, though the book can be a bit long-winded about them. He blows it in the final chapter, however, when he switches from solid historical research to sheer speculation about the future. The book ends with a puff piece about the dream of hydrogen fuel-cell cars that ignores the many formidable obstacles and impracticalities that will make hydrogen cars unrealistic for decades to come. Skip the last chapter, and it's a solid book."
The California Air Resources Board (CARB) voted on March 27th, 2008 to decrease from the (1990) original 25,000 ZEV vehicles, while simultaneously increasing from the recently proposed 2,500, settling on requiring 7,500 ZEV's for 2012-2014. * The 11th hour "Looks like another great film about our global crisis. I hope it comes to Seattle soon. - Dan."
:I am writing to tell you about my new environmental film, "The 11th Hour". The film documents the environmental crises we face and the solutions we must begin to implement while change is still possible. Please take a look at the trailer for my film here. With the help of over fifty of the world's most prominent thinkers and activists, including reformer Mikhail Gorbachev, physicist Stephen Hawking, and Nobel Prize winner Wangari Maathai, "The 11th Hour" documents the grave problems facing the planet's life systems. Global warming, deforestation, mass species extinction, and depletion of the oceans' habitats are all addressed. "The 11th Hour" explores how we’ve arrived at this moment — how we live, how we impact the earth’s ecosystems, and what we can do to change our course. However, the most powerful element of "The 11th Hour" is not a portrait of a planet in crisis, but an offering of hope and solutions. The film ends with a call for restorative action through reshaping human activity. "The 11th Hour" opens on August 17th in New York and Los Angeles. On the 24th it opens in other cities and then across the country in the following weeks. It would be great if you could go see it and bring a friend.
SEVA Forum Ideas / Topics of Discussion For Meeting 7:00PM THURSDAY MAY 29th at MOSAIC COMMUNITY COFFEE HOUSE.

Meeting Goals:

1.	Discuss all open concerns & ideas by all parties present, and all comments submitted by email.

2.	Come up with a mission statement / forum goals by popular vote.

3.	Form official panel of 3-5 to get the forum up and running.

Assumptions:

1.	A forum is a good idea and we will make it happen. It is an addition to the exisiting SEVA community, not replacing anything.
2.	The SEVA maillist will still operate the same (but with a greater focus Announcements and Events – Steven Lough will still call the shots on what is appropriate or off-topic).
3.	The Wiki Site will still operate and continue to add new content and be the main online presence of SEVA.
4.	Security, administration, and desired functionality will be available in the solution chosen, and community members will help moderate and support the forum as needed.

Big Decisions to settle before moving forward:

1.	I think we need to define – or at least get something close - what we want to get out of this, sort of like a mission statement (but with a little more info) something we can bounce the future decisions of off. An example could be:

“Provide a venue for local EV enthusiasts to openly discuss all issues pertaining to EVs, in a candid yet considerate manner. Uphold the SEVA mission statement to ‘Educate, Demonstrate, and Proliferate electric vehicle’ by building a searchable knowledge base, created, maintained and supported by local members. Support the wave of newcomers to Electric Vehicles by providing FAQs, links to resources and tools – both commercial and hobby, and of course, answers to specific questions.”

The above is a quick (and I mean quick) jotting down of my thoughts about how I envision the forum being used. This is only a suggested starting point, for ideas. Please add your comments / feedback. We’ll shape it into something most people can agree with, and go from there. With something like the above to bounce our ideas / plans against, we can make all other decisions based on whether it supports the mission / goals.

2.	Decide on a panel / committee to get the rest of it done. It will go much smoother if a handful of people work together to get the rest of it done (based on majority agreement of what we want out of it). I’m thinking between 3 to 5 people would be plenty – too many folks and it gets hard to meet and get things done. The panel would work with other members as needed (like recruiting Moderators or soliciting feedback at certain junctures).

3.	Host with existing site, or separate domain / host? Mostly a technical decision – we will have to click on a link from the Wiki Site to get to the forum anyway, and a link is a link so it will be essentially transparent to members where it is hosted. Considerations here are expense, reliability, redundancy, scalability (bandwidth & storage), and platform.

Once we decide to host with site or externally, then we can determine which software platform to use. Originally I originally wanted it to be tied closely to the wiki, but the more I think about it, the more I am seeing the advantages of having the forum be hosted separately. For one, if they are on different servers, if one is having problems (even if just network congestion) then the other is unaffected. Not having all eggs in one basket so to speak. Also, if we host externally, we have more choices of platform / software, etc.

In regards to software selection, it is first dependant on the platform (most servers are unix / linux based, but all are configured a little different). I would recommend the most common servers – linux /unix based with php & mysql support. That is what our current Wiki runs on, and since it’s (mostly) open source, it’s free – or close to it for related services, such as hosting.

I think most popular bulletin software packages will have all the features we require, and most all of them we want.

Some considerations are:
a.	Security / Privacy
b.	Administration – powerful enough, but not too difficult to maintain site
c.	Moderators roles / rules
d.	Members roles / rules / Access rights (Should local members have more rights ie, be able to post pictures, have auto signatures with links, etc.? Do we want to allow members from every country?)
e.	Can we tie it (via database / xml / rss) to Seva /Wiki or Seva mailing list? In any way? Do we even want to?
f.	Ease of Searching the forum?
g.	Are there any costs associated with using the software – Licencse fees, recurring fees, etc?
h.	How about advertising support (hosting ads for other sites)…do we even want this feature?
i.	Is the software search engine friendly (in other words when people google “Seattle Electric Vehicles” or something, will the forum pop up in the search results.
j.	Do we have the tools to keep out spammers ie ban by ip, have ability to “earn” right to post links (such as you have to post 10 times before posting links, etc)

4.	Content / layout

a.	Categories / topics
b.	Default layouts, theme, colors, basic navigation & forum behavior
c.	Stickys outlining what goes in which topics, and what goes in off topic category
d.	Who will be responsible for creating the content that is not a forum post – such as naming the categories / topics, blurbs explaining different pages, etc.

5.	Implementation – to be completed by Forum Panel

Steven & Ryan & the Forum Folks -

I have gone through all the responses so far, and compiled there comments here. I've also added them to this thread, so please click reply all on all further correspondence regarding the forum idea.

Please let me know if I added you by mistake (like you just wanted to comment, but don't want to be on this thread).

Ryan - I know you are busy with the migration and certainly other things, so don't feel as though you need to address everyones comments right now. I expect this to be an open email discussion, where thoughts, suggestions, comments, complaints, etc can be advanced - and we'll then see if this has the legs to take off.

As other people email me I'll add them to the list, with their comments, probably one at a time from here on out. I grouped these because there are so many too add at first.

deco-at-pacificsl.com
I love the idea of a forum. I have considered leaving the group because I cannot keep up w/ the emails. A daily digest-type thing would work much better for me. Thanks for gathering opinions!

skip-at-pobox.com (Skip Montanaro)
Rather than risk segmenting the EV discussion space more than it already is,
why not ask the above folks to add a section for regional forums? Here's an
example of a forum site which provides that facility:

You can subscribe to forums. I get emails about posts to the USMS forums
(the link I provided earlier) as well as new posts in several forums on the
914world and 914club sites. My only regret is that you can't simply reply
by email.

daveb-at-drizzle.com
count me in....
Chuck mentioned he liked getting daily mail just to keep tabs on goings on without having to go to and login to a forum. I do too. but I also thought I saw someone say you can "subscribe" to a forum topic and get all the mail from that topic. true??
Guys, I haven't written yet, but I have really enjoyed reading all of the messages that have been coming to my inbox, since I joined the email list. To me, a forum is a place on the web where people can post messages, ask questions, or what have you. If somebody stumbles upon a forum message through doing an internet search and wants to post an additional thought or two, it would be necessary to "join" right? Do forums include options for messages to come to a member's inox? I belong to several yahoo groups and if my idea of what a forum is determined to be correct, then yahoo groups would be similar to forums, with some added options.

c.harbert1-at-verizon.net (Chuck H)
It looks like it's an advertising site, but it is more organized. I guess there would be no way to recieve the daily chatter on your email without going to the website? I'd miss the daily postings as to what's going on.

Most of the postings are news, current events, energy info and personal EV problems. Not the kind of stuff that needs to be archived. Can't we just do a better job of labelling in the subject line so people can delete the stuff they don't want to read?

Ryan Fulcher <rjf-at-dolio.net>
Well, I would like to hold off on adding any new services for a few
weeks as I'm in the middle of migrating the server which hosts the
seva website and maillist to a brand new and faster server.

I like the idea, but the solution unfortunately is not as easy
to properly vet nor implement as apparent by some examples below.
I'm definitely not opposed to the idea, but I also don't want to
start something prematurely just to have it fail or get out of
control. The problem is users, they rarely use tools the way
they should, they want more, they want less, they abuse, and
they are put off and go away...

Maillists
The nwbiodiesel list is as ours a simple maillist:
The EVDL is a high traffic list and the center of gravity for EV talk.
There is already another official EVTech list at:

These simple maillists are the easiest way to discuss ideas and
do not require accounts or web browsers, etc. The EVDL has attempted
numerous times to move to a more modern form and has failed each
time because users habits are not easy to change. The major flaw
of these lists however is that they are not easy to search. Ours
happens to have a yahoo group archive, which can be read in a threaded
manner, which is good, but it's search functions are far from great.
I also have a local archive, while it's search function is fairly good,
it is very slow and does not deal well the discussion threads. I would
like to create a good way to properly index all of the above maillists,
and perhaps that would solve some of the issues and allow people to
use RSS and rapidly search the archives of these lists...

Forums
There are numerous examples of very popular forums, for example
: http://visforvoltage.org/
The problem with these are that they generally require yet another
user account for the person to remember. They are web browser based
so they must be kept compatible with everyones software. They may be
difficult to follow or overwhelming to non-technical users, Even I
find many of them just as overwhelming as high bandwidth maillists
like the EVDL. Urls within a forum should be kept short, so people
don't have trouble linking to them or need to resort to tinyurl.

In the end I've used a number of these and am not particularly
impressed by any of them. But I'll begin looking into some of
the open source forum packages and perhaps we can try out some
to see how they work. Ultimately I'd like to see something that
integrates into the wiki... But in the end (I'm told) that the
MediaWiki software we use is not a CMS (Content Management System),
nor a Blog, Forum, nor List Archiver. It is however IMHO a very
nice piece of web editing and collaboration software that is
feature rich, with a clean look and easy learning curve.

Anyway, it's a good idea but with no clear and simple solution.

Steven Lough
OK... have to put my President hat on

uhh..... uuhh.... GOSH it still FITS ! Head not too swollen yet...!

I like the idea of these Forums as well, for specific segments of our little SEVA World. i.e.
* EVents
* Technical Problems and Solutions
* EV Racing
* Political and Environ Action
* Slightly OT ( Bio, Solar, etc. etc. )
* Other stuff...

I would also like to Keep our Web Site as a general reference to all the above and so on...

However, I would not relinquish the SEVA e-mail system, for I think it would serve us well for General Announcements, and a simple way
to "reach out and Touch " the whole membership at large... in ONE simple
e-mail transmission...

Seems there are at least a half dozen ways to skin this Cat. Slightly different formats, different programs, etc. I would suggest that all interested parties form a committee and meet to hash it all out in person-to-person, rather than days or weeks of e-mails going back and forth...

That would be my 2 cents...

So Ken, Alan, Ryan, Chuck, Stephen, Brian, Dave, others...
Some one STEP UP and set a date, time and place....
SEVA Forum Ideas / Topics of Discussion For Meeting 7:00PM THURSDAY MAY 29th at MOSAIC COMMUNITY COFFEE HOUSE. ==

I do too. but I also thought I saw someone say you can "subscribe" to a forum topic and get all the mail from that topic. true??
it is very slow and does not deal well the discussion threads. I would
like to create a good way to properly index all of the above maillists,
and perhaps that would solve some of the issues and allow people to
use RSS and rapidly search the archives of these lists...

I like the idea of these Forums as well, for specific segments of our little SEVA World. i.e.
* EVents
* Technical Problems and Solutions
* EV Racing
* Political and Environ Action
* Slightly OT ( Bio, Solar, etc. etc. )
* Other stuff...

SEVA Forum Ideas / Topics of Discussion

"Provide a venue for local EV enthusiasts to openly discuss all issues pertaining to EVs, in a candid yet considerate manner. Uphold the SEVA mission statement to 'Educate, Demonstrate, and Proliferate electric vehicle' by building a searchable knowledge base, created, maintained and supported by local members. Support the wave of newcomers to Electric Vehicles by providing FAQs, links to resources and tools – both commercial and hobby, and of course, answers to specific questions."

The above is a quick (and I mean quick) jotting down of my thoughts about how I envision the forum being used. This is only a suggested starting point, for ideas. Please add your comments / feedback. We'll shape it into something most people can agree with, and go from there.

I'm thinking between 3 to 5 people would be plenty – too many folks and it gets hard to meet and get things done.

That is what our current Wiki runs on, and since it's (mostly) open source, it's free – or close to it for related services, such as hosting.

I think most popular bulletin software packages will have all the features we require, and most all of them we want.

Some considerations are:

1. Security / Privacy
2. Administration – powerful enough, but not too difficult to maintain site
3. Moderators roles / rules
4. Members roles / rules / Access rights (Should local members have more rights ie, be able to post pictures, have auto signatures with links, etc.? Do we want to allow members from every country?)
5. Can we tie it (via database / xml / rss) to Seva /Wiki or Seva mailing list? In any way? Do we even want to?
6. Ease of Searching the forum?
7. Are there any costs associated with using the software – License fees, recurring fees, etc?
8. How about advertising support (hosting ads for other sites)…do we even want this feature?
9. Is the software search engine friendly (in other words when people google "Seattle Electric Vehicles" or something, will the forum pop up in the search results.
10. Do we have the tools to keep out spammers ie ban by ip, have ability to "earn" right to post links (such as you have to post 10 times before posting links, etc)

I do too. but I also thought I saw someone say you can "subscribe" to a forum topic and get all the mail from that topic. true??

madderscience-at-gmail.com (Brian Hughes)
This is a good example of an EV-related forum. We could model ours after this one, but with local-to-seattle topics as well.

ntbakerphd-at-earthlink.net (Norm and Peggy Baker)
Usually I am a lurker but I have to admit I really like the idea of a forum if for nothing more than archiving all the information so newbies to EV's, like me, can access it without undue burden on the regulars. Please do the forum.

Also, I find most of us interested in EV also are interested in electric bikes. In fact, many of us need and use both bikes and cars - electric or not. I wonder if extending an invitation to Seattle electric bikers would be a good idea - especially to participate in area car shows. At this point I am not aware of a Ebiker group group in Seattle that meets and participates like the SEVA group does on cars. It is clear from my subscription to to SEVA, that Seattle needs some sort of incentive to get an electric bike group going. Ebikers participating at car shows and EV shows would be a good thing and possibly start such a group

alan.l.thompson-at-boeing.com (Alan Thompson)
Please add me to the list.

I've been contemplating dropping off SEVA due to so much off topic
conversation.

I learned more in five minutes from the site Brian suggested than I have
for months of reading SEVA.

davidcwhite-at-comcast.net (David White)
Let'er rip Ken - I agree completely. The volume of mail is substantial and I can hardly keep up. The forum should be hosted and be part of our own website, that way you don't have to wander too far. Plus it will let those you need and want to pontificate on all things green without bogging down the EV issue. Our Webmaster should be able to handle it without any problems.

We need Ryan Fulcher (webmaster) to give us his comments on this and tell us what needs to be done. There's lots of ways to do it, it's relatively simple from a software standpoint, but someone will need to administer and moderate the users. Any volunteers??

djnova50-at-hotmail.com (Dona)
Guys, I haven't written yet, but I have really enjoyed reading all of the messages that have been coming to my inbox, since I joined the email list. I want to have "forum" clarified for me please. First, I'll say what I think it is, then you can agree, or clarify please.

EV Lecture and EV Car Show - Kenmore Jr. High School
Steve Lough has been asked to lecture on his Favorite Subject, Electric Cars again at Kenmore Jr. High School, on the evening of May 22nd in their cafeteria. The Address is:

Looks like we have 2 vehicles coming, but we could use MORE. So Contact me. And come Along
Kenmore Students and Parents Show Interest in EVs
I have to be honest – I was wondering how many junior high students would get their parents to spend an evening at the school being lectured on the value of Electric Vehicles. When I showed up (late I might add), the room was nearly filled to capacity, and fully engaged with Stephen’s presentation.

I thought the turn out was great, and I was encouraged to see our future leaders showing such a sincere curiosity and interest in Electric Vehicles and alternative modes of transportation. Lots of soon to be driving kids had suggestions and question ranging from perpetual motion to running vehicles off of the force created when liquid nitrogen expands into it’s gaseous form.

The parents – as well as some faculty of the school also asked great questions from how long until we can buy one from the big automakers, to how far can they go and can the batteries be recycled. All of which I thought were fielded and addressed well by Mr. Lough.

Following the speech and an informative question & answer session, the group got to see the X1 smoke the Ferrari and Porsche in the quarter mile on the large video screen. Unfortunately, some videos were not able to launch – likely an “I’m a mac, and you’re a pc so let’s not play nice issue”.

The real fun began when we were dismissed to view the 5 cars that were on display (thanks again to everyone who was able to bring their cars, trucks, and “motorcycles”). I took several pictures which are in a photo gallery at the bottom of this post. If anyone wants the fully uncompressed image(s), just email me (keep in mind they will be about 4MB each).

The genuine curiosity & enthusiasm from the parents and students was amazing. There was also a representative from the Bothell Reporter (please correct if it was a different paper) there to cover the event, thanks finding out about it from someone’s blog. His name escapes me at the moment, but he got a ride in Jeff Finn’s Voltrunner at the end of the night, and hopefully he will have great things to say about the experience – and EVs in general.

Please feel free to make any corrections, add names, edit this as you see fit. It’s my first “post” on this site, and I just wanted to share the photos and a summary of the event.
EV Lecture and EV Car Show - Kenmore Jr. High School
Steve Lough has been asked to lecture on his Favorite Subject, Electric Cars again at Kenmore Jr. High School, on the evening of May 22nd in their cafeteria. The Address is:
20323 66th Ave.NE. Kenmore. One heads UP 61st Place NE from Lake City Way, Double back on Lockwood to 66th Ave, at that point you will see the school.

In stead of just preaching to the youngsters, this evening EVent, 7 pm till 8:30 is being extended to the Parents, and Students.

I took several pictures which will be posted here.

It’s my first “post” on this wiki, and I just wanted to share the photos and a summary of the event.

Aviken:

I am an entrepreneur with web savvy. After watching Peak Oil, I purchased Who Killed the Electric Car...my eyes have been readjusting every since.

My interest in Electric Vehicles stems from a great curiosity of electricity, an intense drive to make things more efficient, being fed up with buying foreign fossil fuels because "there is no viable alternative", and generally wanting to become more self sufficient. I am also very interested in solar, wind and water generation of electricity, and I tend to think out side of the box.

In 2003 I quit my day job to run my start up ecommerce company full time. After 4 years and several online stores, I decided to close or sell my online stores to focus on my family and serving God in my church. I am still active in small business - especially online ones, but more as a supportive / consultant role - not a business owner.

I am very vocal about what I believe in, and I believe electric cars have huge potential. I do not trust big business (that includes our government) to bring dependable, cost effective EVs to market anytime soon. I believe that the oil companies, the automakers, and our government are all in this together, to help line the pockets of all 3 parties. I do not believe they have the consumer's best interest in mind, only how many billions in profits they may extract. The large automakers have the technology today to build a car that gets 75MPG (or more) on gas alone, but they don't have to, so they don't. They have the technology now to produce on a large scale, totally electric cars that outperform the EV1, and sell it at a price point of $30-40k - but again they don't. They are too efficient. They loose far too much revenue in extended contracts, service work, repairs, and replacing of simple part that wear out (too quickly if you ask me). All companies make their money somewhere. If any business is giving a great deal - they they are making their revenue somewhere else, that is a fact (or they will go into the red and eventually fold).

Something my psychology teacher taught me my junior year in high school was to "follow the money". Simple yet sound words of advice, that seems to be the key to so many problems - problems that could be solved if it were not for the love of money.

That's it - that's a little about me.
