There are numerous sites that describe how to harvest A123 cells from Dewalt 36 Volt Packs & how to make custom packs.

http://www.slkelectronics.com/DeWalt/packs.htm

These are all for smaller packs - for use with large remote controlled airplanes, etc.

My question is can one make packs like this bigger & better? Is this similar to what Telsa has - thousands of smaller cells? And how many can you string together safely? I know you need to have a BMS for them...

Yes they are expensive, I'm just thinking these are readily available - perhaps somebody has a buddy at a tool shop & could get a special deal on a pallet of them or something. I am intrigued...

Ok, I admit I am new at this, and ask some dumb questions. So as I stumble upon what is common knowledge to most EVers with history, I feel a little stupid, like now.

I see not only has this been done, but even the famous White Zombie used A123 Cells for a short stint. These pics are courteousy of the Plasmaboy Racing site. Thanks John for such an informative site, man I was up too late reading it last night!

This is exactly what I was asking about, if anyone had done this, etc. Well, at least I know it's possible now!
