Hi!
I recently finished a 1989 VW Cabriolet EV conversion, and have been driving it around on its current registration.
When I purchased the donor car, it still ran and passed smog, but that was a couple of years ago.  I keep the registration
current, but wanted to know what I need to do now with WashDOT, to ensure I am legal and won't have to smog check my
EV the next time around.

If you have the receipts to show your conversion, take them with you and go to the West Seattle License office. They will change the fuel type to E on your registration. If you don't have your receipts, you need to sign an affadavit that you have indeed converted your car to electric. That and $15 (I think) is all you need.
