Hi I'm a newbee here and new to EV's so I don't know anything about EV's and would like to buy a Manual to help me convert my car to EV.  But can this really be true, to Convert a car to EV for under $300 dollars?  It says that when finished you can drive 50 to 55 mph  for a distance of 100 to 120 miles.  It is 40 pages with diagrams and sells for $49.99 with the discount, $99. dollars without the discount online, and the only way they sell it is by downloading it.  No hard copies.

See the webpage here...  www.electricity4gasnow.com

"Peter's complete step-by-step manual will have you converting your own car to run on electricity for less than $300!"  Why pay $1000's for an electric car conversion or a new electric car when you can build your own professional system for less than $300!  Anyone can build their own electric car regardless of skill, and after following the information in my manual, I promise:

 For only a few hundred dollars you will have an electric car that rivals anything the large automakers can produce.

 Your electric car will look good.

 Your electric car will travel at 50 mph.

 You can drive up to 100 miles on a single charge.

 You will be completely satisfied
==============================================

So if this is not a good manual to use then where can I find a good one?  How much are they and where can I buy one?

The best manual, by far, for converting an internal combustion engine into an all-electric vehicle is one entitled "Convert It" by Michael P. Brown. It goes through every step, explains all the options, and suggests the best choices for a conversion vehicle. It is available for about $25 from

http://www.amazon.com/Convert-Michael-Brown/dp/1879857944

Although I have not read Peter's step-by-step manual, I guarantee that $300 will not even come close to paying for a conversion. The conversion vehicle alone, if you don't already own it, is going to cost more than that unless it is a rustbucket pile of junk. Reliable batteries, not used batteries, will cost more than $300. The electric motor, even a used one, will cost more than $300. And there are many other considerations (controller, DC to DC converter, contactor, wiring harness, instrumentation, battery boxes, stronger springs, etc.).

The true cost for a conversion is in the range of $10,000 to $15,000, plus the conversion vehicle.

As is often said, if something sounds too good to be true, beware!

Could it be done for 300 well yes.  Will it work well maybe.  If you are real good at scrounging and have a two car garage collection of packrat itus maybe.

I have read all the "convert it" manuals I could find - I believe including Brown"
The best in my mind is "convert your own EV" by Brant.  There is a 93 and a new version that just came out.

Who has that many parts lying around? Very, very few is my guess - especially those parts (motor, controller, etc.) that are unique to EVs. That guy puts on a pitch just like the guy who is advertising the "Improve your gas mileage with water" scheme. Both are scams.
