I am going to resume restoring my 1959 Austin Healey (Bugeye) Sprite, and although I have the engine and tranny finished already, I'm thinking that before I go much farther, this would be a good to to convert it to electric.

I have requirements, concerns, and far too many questions for this forum, so I'll start with one: Can anyone recommend a good book to get me started on planning?  I need something akin to  "Electric Cars for Dummies".

Is Michael Brown's book "Convert It" any good?  Or is it too outdated?

I need something to give me a foundation so I can determine if this is really feasible.  Any recommendations would be appreciated.

Bob Brant wrote book in 93.  Although oriented to a truck, it has all the calculations you will need.
It also has pretty good sections on how stuff works, pros n cons of different batteries etc etc.

See if your library can borrow the copy King County Library has.  May as well do a free test drive (read??)
The updated version of his book will be on the shelves in Oct.

Mike Brown of Electro Automotive wrote "Convert it"

Bob Brandt wrote "Build your own Electric Vehicle"

Indeed both books are from the early 90's.  The brandt book has more history and theory, and only about a chapter dedicated to step-by-step conversion process.  Mike Brown's book is more of a step-by-step for the entire book.

The fundamental concepts are still quite valid for both but "modern" EV stuff like zilla controllers, AGM and Lithium batteries, battery management systems and other newer computerized gaugest and monitoring and AC drivetrains from the perspective of using these in a conversion aren't covered much in either book.

Your sprite is a very small car so you are going to have to keep things light to convert it.

Good Luck, and you've come to the right forums.  Also look at diyelectriccar.com.  They have a similar conversions forum with global participation.
