About

This 1981 Renault LeCar (aka Lectric Leopard) was converted to electric when new in 1981 by a company called US Electricar. It was completely upgraded with new electric components in 1997. It was originally 48V, now 120V. It has been garaged and well maintained. The interior is original and in fine condition. There is some minor rust in spots such as front quarter panels behind wheels. All of its electric running gear is in excellent working order. It runs nicely. Its main problem is a worn and almost non-functional parking brake due to age and cable stretch. Its current AGM batteries are about one year old and still going strong. The car is quite usable as is with some custom attention to the parking brake, or its very solid electric components could be used in another conversion. It has served us well for many years. We are replacing the Renault with a lighter NEV more suitable for our needs. Located in Seattle.

What will it cost to license and keep this legal on the road. What kind of hoops do you have to jump through. Also top speed and how would it fare commuting between Beacon Hill and Ballard on 99?

Thanks in advance for your info.

It is legal now. It is licensed and registered in Washington State. Been so for many years. I'm not the one who pays the registration but I believe it's about $60/year. If you want exact numbers, I can get them for you.

Top speed is about 60mph.

Ballard to Beacon Hill: no problem with speed on 99, but unless you added batteries, I would say that would be pushing as far as range. (By which I mean: of course it could do it, but that would be draining the batteries below 50% DOD which is not a good place to be if you want your batteries to last.)

REVISION:

Washington State Registration costs:

2007: $45.75
2008: $45.75
2009: $69.75

Whoops, I hadn't noticed it had been sold, so I contacted you.  Sorry for the inconvenience.
