I seem to recall some talk of a membership oriented machine shop which worked similar to having a membership to a gym.  Does anyone know anything about such a place, or was I just dreaming?  Perhaps we were just talking about how something like that would be a good thing...

There was talk of a TechShop coming to Seattle, currently they are in the Bay area.
Here's what they say about other locations:
TechShop is building a network of TechShop workshops, with plans for 9 cities:

San Francisco, California (Planned Opening Mid 2009)
Sunnyvale, California (Planned Opening Mid 2009)
Seattle, Washington (Planned Opening Mid 2009)
Los Angeles, California (Planned Opening Mid 2009)
San Diego, California (Planned Opening Mid 2009)
Austin, Texas (Planned Opening Mid 2009)
Orlando, Florida (Planned Opening Mid 2009)

This is such an excellent idea!  I hope they go ahead with their plans to expand in Seattle - the downturn might delay their growth strategy.
