I have a partially completed conversion project, but as I'm moving to New Zealand (from Duvall), I'll have to pass this project on to others.
Is there anyone around who might be interested in taking this over? It's a 1972 Beetle pan and a full Riot 2 kit (from Thunder Ranch, less the windscreen which they destroyed on delivery).
I sandblasted the pan, coated with POR15 plus two coats of truck bed-liner.
Replaced the brakes with disks all around.
Replaced the cables.
Had the transmission modified for highway gearing.
Attached the electric motor to the transmission. (works fine)
It's in my garage waiting for some welding for the battery support frame. The tires are good.
It's still licensed/registered, and I've also kept up the insurance.
I also have the old rebuilt gasoline engine which had approximately 10,000 miles on it.
Additionally I also have a 1972 Super Beetle that was used by my son.
Not in terribly good shape, but worked until he parked it and got something more modern 18 months ago.
It has two disk brakes I added. Still licensed and insured.
I think I could let everything go for $2300.
The Riot kit cost nearly double that!
I paid $1600 for the Beetle and $800 for the Super Beetle, plus the modifications.
If I wasn't moving overseas I'd keep up this project.
Send me a note to my gmail account (rchuso) for other information.
I was making a web site for it too:
