John F. Kennedy challenged America to put a man on the moon in 10 years, many called it impossible.

Now, Al Gore has given a major speech with another visionary call:

"Today I challenge our nation to commit to producing 100 percent of our electricity from renewable energy and truly clean carbon-free sources within 10 years."

I challeng Al Gore to give viable and or practical solutions for the problems facing America that he brings to light.  I have to give him credit for his big movie, the thing is, after he made everyone aware of Global Warming the biggest solution he gave was: "Use small fluorescent lightbulbs in your home."

He could use some of his airtime and or popularity to talk more about:

WIND TURBINES,

SOLAR PANELS,

And why EV drivers still are using 150 year old LEAD ACID BATTERY technology instead of NICKEL METAL HYDRIDE OR LITHIUM and how more people should do something about it.

Or list the positives of these Alternative resources such as:

Radio frequency generators which can be used to deter birds away from wind turbines,

Wind turbines built horizontal to the ground that are not harmful to birds,

Solar panels that can be made from plastic and other recyclables,

Or how if the government used 1/10th of the money they spent on war to subsidize these things into special programs the U.S. would be ahead of Japan and Germany in our walk to become more sustainable.

Hey didn't Al invent the Internet?

Ok, seriously, there has been plenty to laugh about with Mr. Gore through the years, but I have to say, he is trying really hard to do somethings that I really think are good. It is hard for me not to see this from a seasoned politician, and wonder what his alterer motives are. I think he really believes in what he is doing - yet his videos - especially this one seems like he is still positioning himself for a run at presidency (again?). Either that, or he fancies himself like a President, and wants to "change the world" in a big way, and be remembered for his good deeds.

My gut says he is somewhere in between - that is he strongly believes in global warming and getting away from carbon based fuels, yet he his choosing his words, editing his videos, taking all the steps to position himself in the best possible light.

I'm not a Gore fan, but I agree with his mindset on this, and welcome his challenge. I don't think he has the influence to get the participation needed to make it a reality, but at least he is trying.

Hey, anyone who can win a Nobel Prize for a PowerPoint presentation can't be all bad!
