Revision as of 05:05, 1 October 2012

Our monthly meetings are held at the Church of the Nazarene above the Mosaic Community Coffee House.

Join us at our SEVA Meetings

Unless otherwise posted here, or sent out over the SEVA Maillist each Monthly Meeting is Held on the Evening of the Second Tuesday of each Month commencing at 7 p.m. or there about. Meetings are held at the Church of the Nazarene at 44th St. NE, and 3rd Ave NE, just behind Dicks Drive In on 45th. Their fire damage has been repaired, and they welcome us back. We encourage visitors and members to help support this free venue with the purchase of some fine coffee and other refreshments downstairs at the Mosaic Community Coffee House.

August 14th 2012 Meeting

Hi Everyone,

Sorry for the long delay, but here are the minutes!

  • At our meeting, we had
  • 60+ people
  • 2 Ford Focus EV
  • 1 Tango
  • ~8 Leafs
  • 5 conversions including an awesome teal Triumph Spitfire EV

We remembered Craig Vinton with a moment of silence. Craig passed away the beginning of this month. He was a lively spirit dubbed "Mr. West Seattle" and had a large EV collection which he loved to show off.

State Senator David Frockt gave us a talk on his views. He notes 49% of state CO2 emissions are from transportation and sees EVs as a great way to have a significant impact on lowering this amount. He's seen a lot of surprising antipathy for electric cars. It's also hard to convince people that EVs are going to stay this time around. He has worked with Jeff and works to propose EV-friendly laws. He sees the way forward is to work with the transit community. There are more climate change/transit activists in the House than the Senate, which is part of the reason laws like the VMT are getting stopped in the Senate.

Jeff Finn gave a brief update on the Charge For Change Program. There's a few charge station possibilities in North Bend, Cle Elem, Moses Lake, and Greys Harbor. If you want to make a donation for establishing a charge station in Craig Vinton's honor, add his name in Paypal anonymous box when submitting a donation at http://adoptacharger.org/SEVA

Events

National Plug-In Day, once-a-year event to get in front of people and give them rides. September 23. More information or to attend, e-mail events@seva101.org

August 24 will be last drag race at Pacific Raceways. E-mail Stephen Johnsen hpev@comcast.net for more details.

Rick Woodbury stopped by to advocate for thin vehicles, which can more than double the capacity of all existing freeways, while having more fun! http://commutercars.com/

Greg Rock is a member of Energy Transitions NW which wants to establish a political day of some sort. They want to include people from different groups including SEVA.

Stephen Johnsen has done some testing of A123 20Ah pouch cells that are LiFePO4. These batteries are being produced in Korea and the USA and are now available on the grey market from China, though with A123's financial issues future availability is unknown, but they are currently being sold by Stephen for $30/cell. You can contact him at hpev.llc@gmail.com. He decided to test whether they really are safe by hitting it with a shovel. There was a tiny flame that lasted for about a second. It as punctured through several times and caused no further issues, just tiny sparks on the moment of contact.

See you next month,

Cory
