March 9th 2010 Meeting

Hellow SEVA !

Got several apologies here. First I am having a very hard time sitting down to write my monthly meeting minutes. I think they call it “Writers Block”.. Perhaps it was the great ‘Faux Pas’, of introducing our gust speaker Jim Blaisdell, as “Bill” or what ever I said. He was gracious enough to thank me as “Thank You Fritz”. Good humor… And I have thanked him and apologized. Or perhaps it was the New Revelations about charging infrastructure at ones home, and Seattle Electrical Code, and Load Calculations, and the fact that perhaps…Just perhaps for us… the whole IDEA of having a 21st Century Factory Built Electric Car is beyond us… what with a 80 some year old home…. and an antiquated 100 amp Service Panel.

Beyond all this blood letting…. Jim’s presentation and question and answer session on Coulomb Technologies ChargePoint stations was very interesting and very helpful. I just got through sharing an e-mail exchange with Jim, and he apologizes for the incorrect information on the access cards. There is a ONE TIME $9.95 FEE to apply for one of the access key cards. Their WEB Sight to sign up and apply for a card is: (https://www.chargepointportal.net/index.php/authz/signup.html )

NOW…. All these EV-ents and dates and detail… ( boy I wish I could get some help with this… I wake up some times in a cold sweat thinking… “ Oh GOD… I forgot the High school we were supposed to be at last Tuesday !!” ) or what ever…. This is for Ryan, but perhaps we should add ONE MORE category on our Web Sight Left Hand List…..”EV Event Invitations” And keep this separate from events we have committed to under EVENTS Pending….

Now…. The rest of the meeting… We reviewed several EV’s for Sale to include an S-10 pick up with AC Drive, a Blue Sparrow, a White VW Cabriolet, and a Geo Metro.

Jeff Finn did a brief report on the SB 6377 which we believe to be D.O.A. but that we should now get to work on crafting a bill that we CAN support. Also there was a bill passed recently which will allow a municipality to legalize within their own jurisdiction to use of Golf Carts on their public streets. Some TESLA owners mused that they did not want to be STUCK behind an electric Golf Cart in traffic… ( LOL)

Dave Cloud reported on recent Electrathon Victories, and the adventures of driving an Electric Car he sold up on the tippy top of a Car Carrier, where all you can see out the windshield is SKY, as the transport Driver kept saying..” C’mon just a little further, a little further” Scary !!

We gave a quick LOOK see at pictures of Jay’s beautiful Karman Giah, and Chucks Lithium powered commercial field mower, and Cory from Pacific EV and his experiments holding Li-Ion prismatic cells together with epoxy..

A good report on the 4 – Day – transformation of an older Volvo to Li-Ion Electric. The young lady owner was kind enough to come to the meeting for all to see. Special thanks to Matt P. of X-Ray Auto, Dave Cloud, Kent Bakke, and Dave Barden, and others… Great little car.

Last but not least, we acquired a copy of the National EAA Yearly Meeting Slide Show on PDF file, and shared it with everyone. Most notable item was a Confirmation that SEVA is by 40 percent, the Largest EAA Chapter in the USA.

As before… Any one, and every one are encouraged to ADD or Amend this report as they see fit, both on the SEVA E-Mail List and on our wiki-SEVA Web Sight under Meeting Minutes.
