February 9th 2010 Meeting

BROTHER !! Just when I thought our meetings could not get any larger or more interesting… February 2010 comes along. All Time Record !! Over 85 folks attending, and OVER $400,000.00 thousand dollars worth of Electric Cars in the Parking lot.. ( course that isn’t too hard to do with FOUR Tesla Roadsters + others )

So here we ago, not necessarily in order of importance:

Rich Feldman, formerly from the Seattle Mayors Office, now working with eTEC for Washington, Oregon, and Idaho, gave a presentation on the eTec contract to install Thousands of Charging Wall Units in the Seattle area. There will be many meetings and chance for the EV Community to participate as the spring and summer role around. You can keep tabs on this by going to: http://www.theevproject.com/

Interesting SIDE Comment from Rich. By this time next year with a Thousand or more New EV Owners in the Pacific N.W. and if only one out of Ten want to be SEVA members…. Where are we going to have a large enough hall to hold them all….???

Next, our EV Political Chairman, Jeff Finn gave a report on the proposed legislation Senate Bill 6377. As many already know, it is proposing a $100. fee per year for EV registration. SEVA unanimously adopted a resolution asking Olympia to reject this legislation in favor of a more well thought out and equitable legislation. We are not against paying for our share to maintain roads, but we felt that this was more punitive, especially considering that many other alternative fuels were not being taxed, such as home made bio-diesel, and others. You are encouraged to follow Jeff’s suggestion and immediately write your home district Senators and voice your objections. You can find your Senator's email address at: https://dlr.leg.wa.gov/MemberEmail/Default.aspx?Chamber=S If you don't know in which Washington State Legislative District you live, look it up under the "Find Your District" tab at: http://www.leg.wa.gov/pages/home.aspx.

We made a special request to New Members to join the SEVA e-mail group, in order to keep in contact with all things SEVA.

June 5th is the 2010 Green Festival at the Washington Convention Center, and between SEVA and Plug-In-America ( a.k.a. Daniel Davids) we thought it worth while to participate again this year.

Daniel then gave a report on PIA doings, especially that they had won the opportunity to work on Charging Infrastructure guidelines and legislation within the PSRC ( Puget Sound Regional Council) which tries to help the various municipalities and governmental agencies to coordinate rules, ordinances, and legislation. Also he reported on work he has done in Hawaii to include some of the first Public EV Charging Stations. In passing Daniel also mentioned a KILLER AP for your iPhone !! A simulation for a Chev VOLT, to turn on the charger, check cabin temp, turn on the Air, Check the State of Charge, etc. etc….. SWEET !!

Dave Cloud had a great slide show of his Stretched Ultra Aero Geo Metro. He hopes that when complete his car will be able to log 200 miles on one charge AT Highway SPEED.

Roger Wright reported that Seattle Race Way is keen on having EV’s participate in racing. The short course is just under one mile, and over 30 feet wide with over 13 turns. Great for an EV set up for AutoCross type racing.

Steve Mayeda of MC- Electric announced that the EXTRA special prices for the ZENN NEV’s were being extended ! $9,500 delivered IN Seattle. Also, if a SEVA member can directly help in a Sale, MC-EV will give you a $200. Reward. Aslo the WeeGo with Lithium batteries had arrived. We should all pay them a visit.

Thursday morning ( 2/11/2010) will have several of our members at the Tesla Show Room to witness the Public Announcement of the 30 page White Paper on Electric Vehicles which the Environment Washington Research & Policy Center has authored. My web sight source for the Report is temporarily down, for they instructed me to keep the report to ourselves till after the official Press Conference. I will POST location and URL Thursday afternoon. All in all it is a very POSITIVE report .

We reminded folks that presently there are THREE EV’s for sale in our area: Dave Cloud has a very nice Saturn sedan, Andrew Schwarz (andrew_schwarz@hotmail.com ) has his Mazda Miata, and just this morning learned there is a Ford Ranger EV for sale… Call Marsha LeRoy at 425-313-9767 for details.

New Member Gary Payton, an UW Student gave his report on their Modular EV components. Wheels would include motor, dynamic suspension, and breaking, and could be used on most any kind of platform. There group of 7 students need guidance, help, parts, and so on. Contact Gary at: designtech3000@gmail.com

Reminders were given for the METRO Bus Survey as to whether the Electric Trolleys should be extended or removed. Obviously we feel MORE electric trolleys is what we should have not less. Web sight for Survey one can TAKE to VOICE your opinions at: http://www.zoomerang.com/Survey/WEB229ZZ3M226H

Barbara Denovan gave us an UP-Date on So. Seattle Community College EV Classes.

Folks who are EAA members were reminded of the Annual Call IN National Meeting on Saturday, Feb 27th. You should have received a post card with Magic Toll Free Number and instructions. Also make sure to turn in your ballot and VOTE on EAA Board Members.

And last but not least… Rich Rudmand and Stephen Johnsen gave a report on their new BMS systems, and even MORE high power Charging. Seems Rich has a customer who wants to explore the possibility of having ULTRA Fast charging for a small TAXI fleet. They are talking 4, 5, 6, 700 Amp INPUTS.. WOW !!

As always, as this Meeting Minutes appears at our web sight, one can ADD to it anything one feels that I left out. Or just POST an addition to the SEVA e-mail list.

See you ON the LIST, or see you March 9th.
