May 12th 2009 Meeting

May 12th SEVA Meeting Minutes. 70 folks PRESENT !!

So I am trying to bring back from memory, the most important items…

Perhaps it is time to elect, Draft, Place into Bondage… a fully functional SEVA Secretary !! Any Volunteers ? Someone with writing skills and a built IN Spell check sitting upon their shoulders.. The one in my computer does not always serve me well. LOL

Rich Feldman from the Seattle Mayors Office came and reported on the Alaska Yukon Pacific Exposition (AYP) Centennial Celebration, which will culminate with a Cross continent car rally of old Fords, to end up in Seattle and Renton on July 12th. The plan so far, is to rally with the Model-T’s in Renton the morning of the 12th, and drive to Red Square on the UW Campus for a static car show. Sounds like a good plan to me. Folks not wanting or being able to rally Renton to Seattle, could just set up at Red Square.

Wade Patterson from the Long View area is a dealer for the ZERO line of high performance Electric Dirt Bikes and also the soon to be Street version. He brought a bike to show, and gave a great report. For further details on this you can reach him at AlphaWaveE@aol.com

Lewis Webster gave us a great slide show of his recently completed Ford Escort Sedan.. A standard 120V 500Amp ElectroAutomotive conversion, that he did in his own Drive WAY. No Shop, Great JOB. Nice EV Grin…..

PS: We were able to show his presentation because SEVA now Owns its OWN Digital Projector. Complete with cables and carrying case. A $700. value I fond on CraigsList for $450. Works GREAT !!

We were invited to yet another showing of “Who Killed the Electric Car” in Issaquah on May 27th. Because I am going to be at the 2 day PowerUP conference in Wenatchee, we handed off the job of going to the movie, and answering questions from the Audience to the Saxtons…

Read through the New EV Class schedule at So. Seattle. Community College. Too long here to repeat it. But if any one needs info on that you can go to the SSCC web site, or to our SEVA Web Site. Classes run from June through July and into August.

Brought the group up to speed on the Greenwood Car Show, June 27th. Essentially we are going to ask them to let us have at least 4 or 5 Prime EVs on the Street like the other car clubs, and the rest of our SEVA gang will be in the LOT, like last year. Mixed reviews. Most thought the compromise OK. We will keep you UP on this as June roles round.

Boeing Car Club invited us to their July 19th Car show. Additional INFO at: www.klahayadays.com

Also Roosevelt High School 9th Annual RHS Car Show- Tues. June 2nd, 10 AM -1 PM. This event is in conjunction with “RoughRider Day” This could be a Great MINI-EV show for folks out here in North Seattle.

Deb Seymour, in Jeff Finn’s absence gave a great report on the passage and SIGNING of HB 1481. Complete with photographs of the signing ceremony at the Aquarium Monday with the Governor, and refreshments which she brought. As Jeff said, we now have our EV foot in the door, and we can hang other amendments on the bill as time goes on.

Cathy Sexton brought a bread board circuit in for show-n-tell which she has developed to display copious amounts of EV Data on her Toyota Rav4EV, much like what folks have been able to do on the Prius’s. This is very useful info which up to now, has not been available unless you had a very expensive piece of Toyota Shop Test equipment. Am sure once she can get this into a cute little box, with perhaps some hints from Bruce Sherry, that there are Dozens of Toyota Rav4EV owners who would like to have one.

Took a VOTE on re-ordering another Batch of SEVA T-Shirts. Many new members would like one.

Dave Cloud gave a great report on recent Electrathon racing, and also a slide show on his X-Prize car. It is a very interesting stretched-and-chopped Geo Metro ( of course) with very stream line tail feathers. Lots of fiberglass work and know-how is going into this creation. He has ONE YEAR to finish this, before judging starts.

One other POST Script: As some of our "Heavy Weights sat on a L O N G church Pew in the back of the room, all of a sudden a Loud "CRACK" "CABOOM" and all the "kings men" fell to the floor. My first thought, hope no one was hurt, and my second thought, is MOSAIC and the Church going to make us Pay for the broken bench, or kick us out ?? Turns out I was pro-active and called them Wednesday. And finally making contact with them, they said Don't worry, but if some one WANTED to pick up the bench, for its hard wood Value, come get it no later than Friday or Saturday. Call Tim at MOSAC at 632-8036, or stop by... With a LONG VAN or Pick UP, or a good SAW. (to cut the bench in to.)

Not brought up at the MEETING, but across my desk this A.M. Kenmore Jr. High School has invited us back for another EV Car Show and Lecture. June 3rd, Wednesday Evening, 7 pm till …… This was a great EVENT last year, with a good MIX of Adult parents, and kids. Please let us know if you would like to participate. We will have to make arrangements before the June 9th SEVA meeting of course.

And last, AS BEFORE…. Please, if you feel I have left something out here. Please go to the SEVA List and ADD it to the minutes, or at least POST your additions to the SEVA e-mail list.

Till Then…
