- Electric Vehicle Conversion Workshop
- Instructors: Mike Brown and Shari Prange
- Location: South Seattle Community College
- Class Fee: $800 (Space is limited: $400 deposit by May 9 is required to secure a place.)
This workshop guides you through the complete process of converting a vehicle from a gasoline engine to electric power. Morning classroom sessions will be combined with afternoon hands-on shop sessions. Register at www.learnatsouth.org or call Continuing Education office 206-764-5339.

- Introduction to Electric Vehicles
- Instructor: Steven Lough
- Wednesday - July 16, 2008 from 7:00pm-9:00pm
- Location: South Seattle Community College
- Class Fee: $29
Hear the advantages and disadvantages of all forms of electric vehicles including, street vehicles, both freeway capable and NEV's (Neighborhood Electric Vehicles) electric racing, electric boats, electric assisted bicycles, and scooters. Bio-Diesel, Ethanol, CNG, wind power, and solar power, and especially the vibrant movement toward plug-in Hybrid cars will be discussed. Your instructor, Steven Lough, has been a leader in electric vehicle field for over 27 years. His family GM Dealership took on a line of commercially built electric vehicles back in 1980. A handout listing resources for seeing, obtaining, converting, and repairing electric vehicles will be given to each student.

- Batteries for Electrical Vehicles

Whether you have a hybrid, a plug in hybrid, a car that just uses electricity stored in batteries or a car that runs on gasoline but uses a battery to run the accessories, you will want to know this information. Topics covered will include: general overview of popular suitable batteries for EVs; comparison of costs and specs on various batteries available; calculating the kWhr rating of my pack; how to extend battery life; charging and recycling of batteries.

- Introduction to Electric Bicycles

There have been many new developments in electric bicycles. Do you want to buy a purpose-built bike, install a conversion kit, or build the whole thing from scratch? What about motor, battery, and power controller selection? Do you want a pedal-assist system, power-on-demand hybrid, or a dedicated electric motorcycle? Should it have two, three, or even four wheels? Should you consider aerodynamics or weather protection? How about cargo or room for an extra passenger? What are the local ordinances governing the use of electric bikes? These are some of the questions this two-hour introductory course will cover.
